who is collecting what? (1 Viewer)

I really do like that Diorama you have done with the "CHARGE" - where did you get the base again - I think me once before?

Excellent work.

Ron

Hi Ron,
The base is a wooden 400mm x 600mm kitchen chopping board sourced from a local supermarket. The edging is a portrait frame that we can get made-to-measure here in Dalian. It sits over the base where the picture ought to go and is held in place with 2-part epoxy. The groundwork is just a layer of plaster with railway modelling lichens and scatter materials.
I suppose I really should dull the colours of the terrain down a bit to make it more dusty and sunburnt - but I don't want it to look like a North African desert either.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

They're someone else.
Plastic beads from a costume jewelry shop.
There were too many. I've removed the majority of them since those photos were taken and left only those that are moulded to the figure's bases.

You're welcome MM.
There's a bunch more photos of it buried away in the Diorama Section of the forum.

This is one of my favorite dioramas on the forum, H. If I'm not mistaken you've added more Lancers, Russians and cannon to the scene since we last saw it. Cannot wait to see what you cook up for the TRL stuff.

The poll is a bit biased since most collectors of KC would be drawn to that company by their extensive WWII line. When I started collecting about 15 years ago almost no one was producing WWII. If you are talking about toy soldiers in general (& not just KC) my guess is that Naps are historically more widely collected.

You may be correct if the poll was restricted to figures only, but the popularity of the vehicles, tanks and artillery etc used in WWII would put WWII on top imo. Suffice to say Napoleonic rules the Glossies but WWII rules the Matt section and is still growing.

And of course toy soldier collecting is only a small part of the Military Model hobby of which WWII is the main section, the shelves full of WWII aircraft and military vehicle plastic kits at your local hobby shop will prove that.
