Why are GERMANS so popular (1 Viewer)

I totally agree with those that see it just as a matter of looks. IMHO its just that: WWII german military uniforms and equipment has a more overall appealing visual effect. As some fashionists and industrial designers would say, its just got a cooler design. Nothing more, nothing less.

I agree that this is probably the biggest reason by far. It probably also has a lot to do with the popularity of Napoleonics as well.

I collect German figures for the same reason as I collected tiny plastic Airfix figures as a kid, because they were the opposition to my Allies. My Brits and Yanks have got to have someone to shoot at! That for me is the demarcation line between what I do and what I don't collect. The Germans also had superb fighting machinery and equipment and that is another reason. I know some people don't agree with the following but I believe you can differentiate between the collecting of fighting troops and the collecting of parading and flag waving Nazi's. Purely my own personal slant you understand and I have every respect for those who see it totally different and choose to collect the parading side of things too, because that is the freedom of choice bought by a wonderful generation at a very high price.

Well the MP is technically a German {sm2}{sm4}

More colorful, maybe for a few, but I don't think that holds true many and (sorry) I can’t see it.:confused:
They can't compare to Romans / NAP’s / F&I Wars /AWI / Zulu / US Civil War / Crusades / SOE / Streets of Hong Kong / War Birds and many others.

(IMHO) It goes much farther than that.

Look at the number of movies, books, documentaries and toys that are heavily focused on the Germans in WWII. For example, how many movies about Germany in WWI exist, as compared to Hitler and the Nazis of WWII. As in Stud Turkel’s book … “The Good War” that was a war that was Right and Justifiable and fought with a definite purpose, to defeat Hitler, Tojo and Mussolini.

I don’t profess to have an all encompassing answer. I have AK sets and love them but I can’t say they are colorful, albeit a bit more colorful than the Field Grey of ETO.

Although dwindling lower each day the VETS of WWII are our Fathers and Grandfathers and they have a story to tell.
Even though it was 65 years ago, this is still our WORLD War and the Germans were the most fascinating aspects of that era. (BOTH good and evil)

Too deep for a Saturday, time for another Sam Adams! -- {sm4}

I am still countering with the Americans.......So cool in their basic green, and on the side of what was right in the world at that time. The Germans brought horror to the world and I will never emulate them. I will always show them as defeated by the good guys, even with their fancy equipment and uniforms. Alex

This is simply toy soldiers collecting and freedom of opinions
but the facts remains the same without politics
German sells more
What can i tell u, it's the truth

firebat! love the dio! It is true. You can make interesting dios or figures. I think some of the best american troop poses were from the bulge. I would love to see the one in After the battle that shows some tough american tankers standing outside their sherman. It is an awesome character study. The same can be said of the brits at Arnhem. Plenty of interesting poses to be done.

AMAZING DIO, real awsome photo WOW!!!!!{bravo}}

Trying to conquer the world always proves a topic of fascination. The problem is that it's usually difficult in any one despot's llifetime, so they usually bite off more than they can chew. Which leads to their undoing...and is equally as fascinating, as well as the monday morning quarterbacking which ensues.

Joel: You can bet that anybody seriously interested in world domination is gonna end up looking like a real snickerdoodle.”

Clayton Forester: “What is that supposed to mean?! I’ll deal with you later, back to the drill, Frank. You will bow down before me, Son of Jor-El! Bow down!”

They are popular with post war generations . My father on the other hand ( he's 103 years young) who lived through both wars, WWI as a boy and WWII as a soldier does not even understand why I have Germans in my collection. To him even today all Germans are still Krauts. It is understandable when you loose all your belongings twice within a time laps of 30 years and when you spent some considerable time in a concentration camp.

Yep very understandable. Some will collect them and some won't, all opinions and viewpoints are equally valid.

I agree, but there is a case going on in LA that we should follow. It is going to the jury soon. It's the Brian McInerny / Larry King murder trial.

Basically a very troubled youth shot a *** classmate who was incessantly hitting on him. The police found a copy of Mein Kampf, Stackpole's 12SS Hitlerjugend book, an Iron Cross in the home and the DA in turn filed a Hate Crime enhancement to the murder charge, which if you investigate the details of the case, is absurd.

What I am getting at is it's an example of what some of us can expect if the authorities ever have to walk into our homes for some reason. These things can draw an overreaction.

The evening newscast broadcast the cover of the Stackpole book (which I imagine many here own) like it was the work of the Devil & only a mad man would have it.

They would love my library!!!! Sensationalism haunts US trials especially in LA. Its far more easy to run with neo nazi slays *** than, the run of the mill murder with from what I have read, it is.
