I just want to tell my fellow collector friends in the fórum that will be coming for the World Cup that I live in Brazil’s Capitol, Brasília, and please don’t hesitate to reach me via PM in case I may be of any assistance, regardless of which cities you’re going to. I’ll be more than happy to help. I will be sending my phone number and e-mail when replying to the PM’s received.

Besides toy soldiers, I’m also a football fan. I hope it will be a wonderful and enjoyable event, with extraordinary games!:wink2:

You beat me to the punch in starting a World Cup thread.

I'm looking forward to the beginning of the WC with the Brasil Croatia match.

Although I intend to watch as much as I can, the matches that will grab my attention in the early going will be Spain on Friday and US on Monday; US is in a very tough group. Barring a catastrophe Spain (and the Dutch) should move on from the Group Stage.

Yep Brad, you're absolutely correct, the US got a tough job ahead, and Brazil will most probably face either the Dutch or the Spaniards, whoever ends in second (don't think the Chileans will make it past them...) right after the Group Stage. It will also be a great game!

yes Sir I'm also a soccer fan. I'll try to watch as many games as possible.

Finishing second is to be avoided! It would be a shame if Brasil and Spain met at that stage. If Spain finishes first in their group, they will be in the other bracket and not have to face Brasil until the final, if they both get there. If Brasil gets to the final, I pity the team who has to play them.

This is going to be an very exciting World Cup. We have the schedule and have cleared all the recordings on our box to ensure we have plenty of space to record the games.

Thank you Sentaapua for your generosity is reporting "live" on the Copa Mundial 2014!!!

Totally agree Wayne with both comments: toughest job for Australia and some great looking women here :wink2:

My prediction is a France/Brazil final game but good luck to the other teams! Great line up of strong national teams! Will be fun to watch with a glass of Caipirinha ^&grin Saude!

What a gift Brasil received. Well, it didn't take long for the Refs to screw up.

For all the complaining about flopping in the NHL and the NBA, soccer remains the gold standard for flopping; what an embarrassment.

I like soccer, I want to like it, I want to watch it but this stuff drives me away from the game.

It's a part of the game and a part of the culture of soccer and I can't stand it.

What a disgrace.

The refs tend to be a crap shoot in the WC, less so in league matches. It's just part of the game.

That makes no sense; the World Cup is the premiere soccer event in the world, they should have the best refs doing the matches on the pitch (pretty good huh Brad; I used match and pitch in the same sentence).

And to have a goal result from flopping is embarrassing.

In Aussie rules football if you fake anything you get a free kick against you the crowd boo,s and the players give it to you, very un-Australian to carry on like you have been shot if you fall over on a AFL field.
Im with you George i watch ALOT of sport (Just ask my missus ^&grin) and the BS in soccer turns me off it faking for a free etc and grand final over here was lost in the last minute by a player "Falling" in the penalty spot for no reason awarded a penalty game over.
I was embarresed for him and thought it was a very hollow victory.

Gents,

There will be ALL KINDS OF FLOPS in this World Cup. It will be almost comical...just watch! Lots of prima donnas/Pretty boys in Soccer and once they get a hair out of place...FLOP. However COMMA, I love to watch the matches and all the drama that comes with it. My wife loves Furlong from Uraguay, my eldest love Ronaldo and daughter #2 love Chicarito. Me...well... Womens FIFA is just around the corner!!! Aye dios!!!! There are some major hotties in the THAT Cup. So, I love the games.

All I'll say is...Rugby is the game played in heaven.......^&grin:wink2:

The NHL has something similar, a penalty is called if you flop on the ice, unsportsmanlike conduct, 2:00 minutes to cool off in the penalty box.

Some of the flopping in soccer is actually comical, many have turned it into an art form.

Well, all I can say is that in every World Cup I’ve watched so far (the first one I remember was 1970/Mexico) there were serious referee mistakes, just wasn’t expecting something of this magnitude right on the first game {eek3}. Giving you an idea of what happened here, the overwhelmingly majority of Brazilian fans and press were embarrassed  by Fred’s (the Brazilian player who’s now running for the Oscar as best actor…) attitude and the fact that the referee bought it, and deeply relieved by Oscar’s (best player in the game) 3rd goal. It would have been disastrous had we won 2x1 after that penalty…:rolleyes2:
I hope that today’s Spain x Holland will be a great game, hopefully with no mess-up’s by the referees!^&grin

Ref mistakes and overacting are a fact of life and we move on. In 2002, a ref mistake in the Spain Korea match cost Spain the chance to move to the quarters. They were a good team and who knows. I was cursing for days. Of course, who can forget Maradona's The Hand of God.

Overacting is common in all sports. I've seen some major acting going on in the hockey playoffs so this is common to all sports.

I'm sure there will be a few more in the coming month.

Brad

It looked like a good call to me. The defender made the mistake of wrapping his left arm around Fred's left shoulder and giving a tug. You don't do that in the penalty area right in front of the goal with the ball in play right there too. He may not have hauled Fred down, but he certainly impeded Fred's progress to the ball.
