WS 43 Wittman (1 Viewer)

To clarify what I have on good authority to be true:

1. Older version - OLd Style large White Box with K&C Label - HEAVY version - 2 Maps on turret, one in front of Wittmann, one in front of Wohl

2. New Version - Color style picture box - Lighter - only 1 map on turret.

Tom

1. I have WS 43 and my version has no maps at all and came in a yellow coloured picture box.

2. The WS 43 photo on Sager's site shows a single map on the turret in front of Wittman

3. Collectors Magazine #1 shows no maps on the turret, but Wittman is holding a map in his right hand.

If there is also one that has 2 maps on the turret, then there could be 4 versions.

I thought this had been resolved in the prior thread but apparently not.

Wow I'm really sorry I didn't mean to open this can of worms up this wide but it has turned out to be interesting.....Louis might need and addendem to the book now. I understand about the box situation and agree there isn't alot of truth to a white box being necessarily an older version. I do know that Wittman is carrying a map in the K&C Collector's Club figure version. Seems he was never without one. Maybe he needed a review mirror instead so he could have seen the Firefly that took him out....Oh no not to start another difference in stories...lol!

No worry. We both know it was a shot from a 3/4 rear angle on the tanks left side that got Wittman. We just don't know which of the Quebec Fusillier's tanks did it - it was at such close range it didn't even have to be a Firefly.:D:D

Ok, wow.

Terry, I think my interpretation of 2 maps is inaccurate, the only map that "matters" is in front of Wittmann. I know there are 2 versions, one with, one without. One with is heavier in old white box, one without is the newer version (one you have and I have). I just purchased the old one, so waiting for it to arrive, seller said 'heavier with map", so we shall see.

Question, the one with Wittman holding the map, could that be a prototype figure that wasn't used?

WHO KNOWS??? ONLY THE SHADOW>>>>>

Seriously, pretty interesting.

I agree. As I posted earlier, I believe there were only 2 versions actually produced - The heavy one with the map on the turret, and a lighter one with no map. I have never seen an actual model with the Wittman figure holding a map - only photos in brochures.

Does anyone know what is on the map? Is it in English or German? Is it historically accurate, ie, a map of France during 1944? Is it true to scale? Would it be a map that was bought from a French souvenir shop by Wittman or German issued? .......:p

All of this map talk is fascinating, I'm on the edge of my seat, this is all Fully Automatics fault; talk about a can of worms, more like a 55 gallon drum of worms...............;)

Hi George. If memory serves me, the one I had was supplied with a Michelin road map done in 1934.:D:D:D:D -- Al

From all reports, it's a map showing the directions to the (toy soldier) bunker at Minuteman in Taunton, Mass. Of course, those are just rumors...:D:eek:

Well someone must of stole Wohl,s map or he threw it at Whittman or used it to wipe his "Ar..........................................se...............nel of ammo rounds" or swapped boxes because mine came in a white box 1 map and cant compare weight as i only have the one. Will even go crashing through my hundreds of boxes that clutter my shed that im seriuosly thinking of getting rid of and look for it.I remember i bought it off ebay and it was from a girls deceased Grandfather and on the box it said Whitmans first Tiger......... The map is directions to the nearest BOOZER well thats what mine is.

Ok,
here is my update:

1. Old Wittman - Has Map in front of wittman on turret. Also has loose hatch. AND at least twice as heavy. Here is a twist, box is same picture (newer style) box.

2. New Version - no map, lightweight. Same box.

Ok, that's all I can report. The weight is extremely different, shockingly so.

Tom,

I found that with my WS43 (older version) and WS70. Same tank, drastic weight difference. I assume that the materials used in the polystone mix altered, although whether that was for shipping reasons or better detailing, I'm unsure.
