WW1 1914-2014 Centenary thread (2 Viewers)

I recently discovered the Guardian's WW I page. Excellent articles and resource.

An impressive symbol of youth wasted.

Well said indeed Brad. There is something uniquely heartbreaking about the Somme and WW1 in general, the closest being the ACW I feel. With WW2 the reasons and driving forces were more clear, but WW1 and the Somme saw the death of innocence and the end of an age in Britain, things were never the same again here .

I can't remember if it was recently or within the last year but the BBC's Witness program had a story about the tunnelers.

The BBC have so far done an amazing job in covering/ explaning/ informing on the centenary , online, tv, radio , social media etc. There coverage has been fantastic and we're only half way through .

Rob .

Thanks for the link. The article mentioned atrocities. Although not as many as the Germans, there were also atrocities by the French. On the Eastern Front, both sides carried them out.
