It's actually been going on for awhile. You could actually say that it started with the Entente Cordiale.

Thanks for the interesting articles Rob.

This grows bigger and more impressive by the day, by November it will surround the Tower. I'm going to buy one as the twenty five quid goes to supporting our wounded troops, a very good cause indeed.

The more I see of this tribute, the sheer scale of the project, the more impressed I am. Perhaps the best visual way for a person to comprehend the massive sacrifice involved in winning the war. It is a real heart-breaker and a brilliant tribute. -- Al

So well put Al if I may say, it is both awe inspiring and heartbreaking, I just think this a fantastic tribute. Am going to visit and will take some pics before armistice day later this year.

never knew about this until last week .....

The Zimmermann Telegram was intercepted and decoded by the British cryptographers of Room 40.[2] The telegram's message was:
FROM 2nd from London # 5747."We intend to begin on the first of February unrestricted submarine warfare. We shall endeavor in spite of this to keep the United States of America neutral. In the event of this not succeeding, we make Mexico a proposal of alliance on the following basis: make war together, make peace together, generous financial support and an understanding on our part that Mexico is to reconquer the lost territory in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. The settlement in detail is left to you. You will inform the President of the above most secretly as soon as the outbreak of war with the United States of America is certain and add the suggestion that he should, on his own initiative, invite Japan to immediate adherence and at the same time mediate between Japan and ourselves. Please call the President's attention to the fact that the ruthless employment of our submarines now offers the prospect of compelling England in a few months to make peace." Signed, ZIMMERMANN

I'm observing the anniversary of the start of the war by rewatching "Fall of Eagles", and by reading "Germany in World War I", published by the Bundeswehr for its schools.

Prost!
Brad
