looking forward to this!!!!!
Let's have a diorama: "ACTION AT THE SEAWALL" TARAWA NOV 1943
An LVT-2 hung up on the seewall, but still fighting from the gunners perspective. Disembarked marines fighting an unseen but ferocious fighting unit, with perhaps a sniper tied to a tree. Some hand to hand combat poses fighting for every square inch of turf, and a sherman to help them. A MARINE PLANTING A BEACH MARKER, TELLING SUCCEEDING WAVES WHERE TO LAND. Combat corpsman helping the wounded, and a section of the infamous pier. This little place in the middle of nowhere, and a 100 more like it, was where the real D-Days were BEFORE JUNE 6th 1944. Does anyone here realize that the US began an attack with a huge attack force on the Marianas Islands almost immediately after Europe, that rivaled the european invasion? These D-Day's were in scope from US participation LARGER than the european one. Saipan, Tinian, and Guam were key strategic bases, and we needed them for our B-29's to start leveling Japan. Naturally, as we got closer, they got tougher, and we see more of the "Bushido Code" at its best.
Mass Banzai charges, civilian jumping off of cliffs to keep from being taken prisoner, as they were told by the defenders. We were seeing first hand, what the invasion of Japan was going to be like, and it wasn't going to be hedgerows and cliffs. It was going to be a fight for a fanatical idea or death.......Stryker

Stryker - you just sold me on this! when do you start shipping? I'll take all sets you make.
Out of curiosity - does anyone know which vintage Marx playset sell better than the rest? I seem to remember their Pacific set was as popular as the rest that they made. Or is it recent prejudice against the Pacific theater that makes mfrs. not want to make any more? Popularity and interest in WW2 ETO seems to have peaked ever since Tom Hanks and Steven Speilberg made Private Ryan. Maybe that will happen with this new HBO series.
No doubt about it,SPR and then Band of Brothers thrust the American experience in Normandy back into the limelight.I hope the forthcoming Pacific series does the same for that theatre,as all theatres were equally important in WW2 in my view.
Rob
Yes i'd heard that too,the veterans of the Pacific have waited a long time for their series and i hope it does justice to the young men who gave so much in helping to rid the world of the detestable Japenese army.
Rob
I'm sure that the British, Aussies, New Zealanders, Indian, etc veterans of the pacific, have gotten pretty tired of hearing all about europe, and people need to remember them too, as they really had a tougher foe to contend with in the Pacific, just like we did...............Stryker
agreed
