Not really a big sports fan but my two are ones where I was in the stadium.
First was in 1981. Was back in home town of Liverpool and had decided weeks before to go to Anfield to watch the only home game Liverpool had whilst I was there. It was a game against a minor Finnish team in one of the early rounds of UEFA cup. Bill Shankly the legendary Manager had died the day before. This online comment sums it up :
It was an emotional night at Anfield ‘“ one of the saddest nights on the Kop.
Liverpool won 7-0 on the night at Anfield, having won the first leg 1-0. The players and the Kop were in inspirational form as we eased into the second round of the European Cup, Mark Lawrenson and Ian Rush both opened their Liverpool goalscoring account that night while Daglish, Ray Kennedy, Johnson and a brace from Terry McDermott completed the win.
However, Bill Shankly had passed away the previous day, Shankly died from a heart attack just seven years after leaving his beloved Liverpool, at the age of 68. The supporters tribute to Bill Shankly at Anfield that night will never be forgotten, throughout the second half, the Kop simply sang “Shankly, Shankly” to the tune of Amazing Grace, a banner was also unfurled on the Kop which read “Shankly Lives Forever”….
Naturally the whole crowd sang their well known song You Will Never Walk Alone and it made for a very moving occasion. 7 goals also helped.
Second one was a Rugby 7's tournament in Hong Kong. Fiji were the team to beat, as usual, and their players were huge and very fast. One of them went on a rampage towards the opposition try line and looked sure to score a try. The opposing team was Korea and one of their players (at least a foot shorter) not only caught him but brought him down with a brilliant tackle. The crowd went nuts, more so for the bravery of him being able to bring him down and stop the try. Fiji still won but it did not matter.

Al, pretty sure O'brien scored one of those baskets. One of the defensive subs DickStobaugh made one of the steals.
