I purchased the Woodland Scenics Static King static grass applicator along with their recommended static grass adhesives and a selection of 7mm and 12mm static grasses in three different colors.



After watching many YouTube tutorials on application techniques, I decided yesterday to experiment by making "grass tufts". After letting them dry overnight I am very pleased with the results. Not too bad in my opinion for a first time. The British officer figure is for size perspective. The tufts were made using a combination of 7mm Straw, 12mm Medium Green, and 12mm Light Green.




While I was at it, I also made some bushes out of dried Sugarbush foliage.



Today I plan to start applying static grass to areas of the diorama base where I don't plan on placing any figures.

Mike.....I have the same static grass applicator and I love it. One word of advice, when using 12mil grass, the 9v battery does not provide enough energy to get this grass to stand upright correctly. However, getting the plug that connects into a 110 outlet solves this issue.

These were just quick photos to see how it was coming together. Most often I take the time to photo edit each picture to either erase or camouflage the bases. I'll do that extra step once the display is finished .

Thank you Rick. I think you'll really like the results you will get. The 7mm static grass gave me the best results. You definitely need the Woodland Scenic 110v power supply of you are going to lay down 12mm grass.

Hello Mike,
It is so refreshing to see you showcase a diorama other than WWII. Don't get me wrong I love all time periods but the Forum has gotten too WWII heavy and needs more diversification like this article. I am personally a Horse and Musket period fan but my father fought in WWII Pacific as a Marine so I do follow the WWII articles also. Thanks for all your postings, I really enjoy them.
