Interesting documentary Matt, thanks. Tough to make a success in the music business!

I can't say I was ever a punk fan and I think of Nirvana when 'garage' is mentioned - not sure what it is or how to recognise it so I am probably wrong.

I have been happy in my ignorance and enjoyed hard or classic rock, some prog rock, a good singer and jazz instead. What a square.

A couple of more recent rock tracks from an English band, Thunder (still going since 1989):

I like this album, they are on 'All the Right Noises'.

Incidentally, I noticed you had a reference to Daryl's house on one of the You Tube images - there is some great music on there. All the best, Kevin.

Thanks for this - did not know this one.

Considering the career Steve Winwood has had I think he has gone under the radar. For example, Eric Clapton really rates him and has done since the sixties. They even formed Blind Faith after Cream and Traffic broke up. Winwood wrote this for their first album ....
but I really like this later version.

Yes it was an interesting doco Kev, Punk has been around a while hasn't it, I'm not a big fan of Punk but I do like some such as Green Day and Offspring. I agree that the term 'Garage' has been applied to more recent bands such as Nirvana, they keep changing those genre goal posts don't they.

Here's an early Aussie Punk band;

The Saints...Just Like Fire Would

Thanks Matt, I liked that but I wouldn't have thought of it as punk.

I have some Green Day courtesy of my kids - this is my favourite.

Yeah, it's one of The Saints few pop type songs, '(I'm) Stranded' is more typical of their lineup, the singer was 19 at the time of this film clip.

I have Boulevade of Broken Dreams on my play list together with Minority and Holiday.

This is more like punk.

Who's brother happened to be the drummer in Steppenwolf ......
Thanks, they were before my time and if I had bothered to check their history further I would have discovered that Mars Bonfire (Dennis McCrogan) was a founding member of Jack London & The Sparrows that became The Sparrows and subsequently Steppenwolf, so certainly not the outsider I thought he was.

BTW, this Jack London guy reminds me of an American singer originally known as 'England Dan', actual name Dan Seals, who was the younger brother of Jim Seals (Seals and Crofts). Apparently Jim used to call him 'England Dan' as Dan was into 'Brit Invasion' music at the time, aren't Brothers terrific :unsure:

Here's a catchy song from Dan's early years;

England Dan & John Ford Coley...I'd really Love to See You Tonight.

Dan Seals became a successful Country Music performer.

Dan Seals...Everything that Glitters, is not Gold

Dan Seals & Marie Osmond...Meet me in Montana (Ye Ha)

Matt, thanks, these were (none of them) tracks I would have picked out for myself, but they were all pretty good.

Since I started posting on this thread I have researched my music more (thanks again). This link to Wikipedia explained to me a bit better about Cool Jazz, although I can only think such monikas are merely marketing slush.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cool_jazz

I was brought up on big bands, but introduced decades ago to these exceptional exponents of the art in a small group - playing mellow, melodic jazz, which really opened my eyes. No loud brass allowed!

A couple of tracks from the first album of theirs I bought, ironically from a record called their last concert:

Blues in H (B)

Softly as a Morning Sunrise
