I wonder what was said...we will probably never know...I thought Staley was gonna give Geno a beat down...
Mike,
For what it's worth, I got this text from a friend of mine, make of it what you will...................still doesn't excuse him storming off the court after the loss and not shaking hands.........sucks for UConn that the perfect season went down the crapper, but still.........
"George,
I finally learned what set Geno off last night. I’m at the women’s basketball association convention here in Phoenix. One coach (who I won’t name) who has been to the final four told me that in big nationally televised events like this they, for TV purposes, introduce the coaches and they meet at half court to shake hands. This is NOT the same thing as the pregame handshake that we all saw happen. This is a separate moment. This coach told me this (paraphrase):
“I was watching that moment and Geno went out for the handshake but Dawn didn’t go out. She stayed in her huddle with her staff and Geno waited for a long time for her and she never showed. Jamelle Elliot, one of Geno’s assistants, came out to get him and he was clearly a little flustered.”
This coach thought that Dawn was trying to “one up” him before the game psychologically.
If so, it worked. So good on her. But that’s what Geno was pissed about. And Dawn knows exactly why he’s upset about it and frankly, it was her plan to set him off like that.
That’s what this coach, who knows them both and who has been there, said.
She said it happened to her once and she was pissed about it too.
But even so, Geno handled it poorly, specifically in his halftime interview, where he made some unhinged comments and the way he acted after the game to say the least."
I bring this up just to clear the air on what, specifically, Geno was talking about.
