Cataloging Trophy Boxers (1 Viewer)

Thanks britfarmer. I am at work and was about to go home but i decided to look at the thread and couldn't believe that my pictures were there. I do not know what you did, but thanks alot. I joined photobucket and have been at this all day, maybe tomorrow you can tell me what i did wrong. And churchmouse, thanks for the identification. I have one other set with blue pants and khaki topps that i didn't have a picture of. The first picture are the ones that really look the best in person. Thanks guys

You guys make me regret never getting into the Boxers when Trophy was in business.
Lovely sets guys all round.
Thanks for posting them.

Me too:(

Great sets, thanks for the pictures

Cheers

Here is an interesting figure, I am reliably informed he is a British Navy sailor from the Naval Brigade on Legation guard from a very early Boxer set. You will note the “D” stamped in the base (Dragon Crest)

I bought him, not because of the Boxer Rebellion connection but to act as a sentry on my Nile Paddle boat.;)

I have no idea of the original set number I’m afraid

Cheers

Hi MARTYN.This "JOLLY JACK TAR" WAS sculpted by a club member,I bought the master and produced it in the early 70;s before the Boxer Series had been started. The idea was he could be used to line the route for the Royal coaches etc,at this stage we were not selling boxed sets ,but single figures "loose packed" as we refered to it.The base indicates it was in the Dragoncrest range,he was one of my favourite figures.Regards Len

Wow, that is awesome that he still responds to inquiries. Truly a great individual, I wish he never would have retired.

Morning T.D,thanks for the kind words,I was lucky enough to get involved with model soliers at an early age ,about 1933,I was four with an elder brother who made model sodiers! With a start like that I couldnt go wrong,I was fortunate to meet many fine people over the years ,and the pleasures out weighed all the problems and troubles.I had survived colon cancer and two heart attacks, after the last one my wife pleaded with me to call it a day,so about 3 years agoI passed the business onto a long time friend Ken Jackson I keep busy these days with Family History and Paintig, but I sorely miss the camaraderie that came with our hobby.Best Regrds LEN

Hi Len

Many thanks for that info, I bought him at the last London Show and he blends in very well with my other Naval Brigade sets. I never got into the Boxer range, more fool me:eek:, even though Lynn suggested I should.

Dear Mr. Taylor,

I could not agree more with Tom's (TD) comments.

Some of us like myself have not had the honour and pleasure of meeting you when Trophy was in business.

I would have loved to visit the Trophy workshop in Penarth, Wales.

The collectors who have made the visit to Penarth have very fond memories of your wonderful hospitality.

I, along with the other Trophy collectors here, very much appreciate your time and effort in joining our discussions on the Trophy subforum.

Best Wishes, Raymond.

Just visited a fellow Trophy collector's Boxer collection and found some figures I could not identify. Please forgive the quality of the photos, but had only a few minutes to look at his collection.
First photo - could not identify British Officer and figure next to him in khaki

Second photo - two kneeling figures in khaki with white helmets

Lawrence: Your Trophy Boxer 2 album photos are excellent. So many figures I didn't know existed. Thanks for posting. Some interesting statistics aout the Boxer Rebellion are that 59 Medals of Honor were awarded with 4 for the army; 22 for the navy; 33 to the marines and 1 posthumous.

Dave & Martyn,

Thanks for all the help. As usual, the dynamic duo come to the rescue:) Dave, have you gotten an opportunity to figure out the B series? I have asked around and have had no luck finding those gaps in the list you put together - guess we will have to wait for Len. Thanks again for identifying those figures. All the best, Lawrence

Lawrence,

If I'm to play Robin to Martyn's Trophy Batman, I have to warn you: I would look hideous in tights. I haven't had the free time. I was off work sick for a week when I first started this project, and I haven't had the down time since to pursue the B series. We may hear from Len before I can get around to it.

Hi Everyone: Back to the business at hand! I asked Len about BS 24,32,34, and 35. He said BS 32 is a set of Royal Welsh Fusiliers of six prone firing privates, one is wounded. BS 24 is a single Boxer firing jezail from set BS28. In 1989 he started selling selected single figures. He will keep looking for information about BS 34 and 35. I hope this helps toward completion of the list.

Thanks to everyone who did all the heavy lifting to put together a list of the Boxer Rebellion sets. Although I have a 1991 Trophy catalog and early 1990s lists from Stone Castle Imports in Kenturcky and Dutkin's Collectibles in New Jersey, many sets were missing. I noticed that Len said BS32 was the Royal Welsh Fusiliers Prone Firing, but we also have BS47 with the same discription. Is the later a mistake in the list?

I currently have 23 of the BS sets, the three hand-to-hand sets, one equipment set (EQ45), and the Peking Gate. My Peking Gate set is FAR2 which is called the Assault on the Peking Gate and has a gray colored wall with two statues of the the lion dogs plus two boxers running, carrying a ladder, and one boxer climbing a ladder. It was listed as price code XG in the 1991 Trophy catalog and Stone Castle had it for $330 in 1994. I have no idea what FAR stands for nor do I know if it was preceeded by a set FAR1.

Again, many thanks to everone who contributed to this effort.

Well here are some recent results of my "leg work" ...first versions I guess...Austrian sailors are my favorite...
Al
