1880 Preparing for the first Tourists of the season

The Tourists arrive and prepare to leave for their unforgettable Nile trip

1882, The War in Egypt begins, and the SS KHARTOUM has become a troop transporter, first moving The Post Office Rifles

Next it's the turn of The Scots Guards

And The Black Watch

Finally the SS KHARTOUM becomes the home of the Naval Brigade until cessation of hostilities following Tel El-Kebir and the fall of Cairo

Peace in the Nile region is short lived and the SS KHARTOUM becomes part of the ill-fated Nile Expedition in the attempt to rescue Gordon at Khartoum. This time she is converted into a fully armoured steamer

All sketches supplied via the pen of Alphonse Prior, Melton’s not so famous brother
