He uses the same formula as Thomas Gunn... he prices his products with the Collector in mind!
And the fact that the Tiger re-loaders are $10 less than the Sherman version is incredible!
How does CS do it? How can they produce a King Tiger, with the ruined track extra feature for $50 less than a competitor's Tiger I (a smaller tank, at that)? It can't be level of detail, for CS is equal if not better. Materials? Labor? Shipping? A combination? Anyone know? -- Al

You make some good points & they come with metal grill covers when were told it can't be done by of company's

I don't know how they do it, but I find myself buying nearly as much from CS as other manufacturers. I love their vehicles and accompanying animated figures. The King Tiger is in my sights now, and I am about to pre-order it tonight. I bet CS could make a great DD landing scene, which lends itself to the drama of these figures - kind of like Conte in a larger scale.
It is not out yet. Just went up for pre-order. I think it is due in January, sometime. -- Al

So what is the difference between the two turrets? They look preety close to me.
One is by Porsche - it's the very expensive sports version
. To save money and speed up production, they quickly switched to the more basic Henschel family sedan version.The commander's cupola on the Porsche turret sticks out past the side of the turret creating a rounded bulge in the side of the turret that runs half way down the side of the turret. That made the side panel of the turret complex to make and costly to make and slowed production. The commanders cupola on the Henschel turret is moved away from the side of the turret eliminating the bulge leaving a plain turret side panel which is much easier, faster and cheaper to make.
The front plate on the Porsche turret is small and rounded creating a shot trap on the underside at the front of the turret. The front plate of the Henschel turret is flat eliminating the shot trap and is cheaper and easier and faster to make.

I meant faster to produce - not faster on the ground. The curvy bits of the Porsche turret took longer to make, required more special machinery and higher skilled workers to make than the more rectangular shaped Henschel turret. The cost of the Henschel turret was much lower.
The only reason there was a Porsche turret was because of the design competition between Porsche and Henschel for a turret which was won by Henschel. But Porsche had already produced 50 turrets, (they were sure they were getting the contract) so rather than scrap them, they got used first while the Henschel turret went into production.

The design flaws in the 1st turret design were recognized but the Germans decided to build 50 of the first turret anyway while the turret was being redesigned. That first turret was P-2 Turm which for some reason became known as the Porsche turret. The second turret was called Serien Turm or Production Turret and became commonly known as the Henschel turret.

"Porsche - There's no substitute." - Tom CruisePlus, the Porsche version had leather seats and a rear spoiler as options!
Also, the insurance was higher!

Actually the Porsche version did have leather seats and a spoiler of sorts in the form of a counterweight at the rear of the turret to balance the weight of the gun. But they could not get any insurance for it.
