... for whatever reason?

Got the idea for this new thread from another recent thread...

When it comes time for me to downsize my collection in later years, I am more inclined to sell-off my matte metal collection and keep my Britains swoppet collection as I have a more nostalgic connection with that series. I may also, choose to keep my Napoleonic glossy metal collection as well and a few of my favorite aeroart figures. :)

I'm actually trying to do that with some mixed success. I'm slowly selling off WW II. If I had to jettison almost everything I would try to hang onto my K & C glossy and a few of the wooden warbirds.

All of it, if it came down to it, because the only reason I can see to get rid of any of my collection would be for some dire financial need. As much as I enjoy it, it's only a hobby.

Prost!

the only reason I would sell something...would be to make room for something else...the only two series I know that I would never sell is my JJD Snow Shoes and K&C Crusaders figures...I could part with the rest if need be...

Well, as you get older, don't you need to ask yourself: do I need all this stuff? That's the question I've been asking myself.

My collecting is off by 90%... Collecting these days, has become selected, well thought out pieces only! Collections comprising WW2, ACW, Napoleonics and a few others may be easier to downsize later on... Anything that falls out of these mainstream eras may be more difficult to sell. Something to consider... {eek3}

I really don't collect anymore just getting my kits painted.Ended up selling all my Jenkins. The one regret is selling the Snowshoes range.I could still collect it as there are a lot of sets being sold privately or on ebay but I don't think I will.

I don't think so, it's a hobby so we did not need the stuff to start with. Collecting is what the species does for the enjoyment it provides for the type of interest one has. In this case, historical conflict. It's a requirement for many to keep Corporate life in check and maintain sanity.

When you ask that question, you might be loosing interest.

I am very selective since this is a collection and I am not going for the number...I only buy what I like and I never sell what I like.

Everything would go in one hit. How this has happened in the past, for my collections I thought I could never let go, was asking a few questions........when did the collection last see the light of day, am I depriving someone else from the pleasure from the collection and who would do far more justice having it. The thought of someone displaying it correctly and getting enjoyment from it, allows me to let go. Storage is a problem for me and quite often items are being crushed etc due to not being packed away properly. Also knowing over a long period the items are fading and getting brittle etc is another reason to move them on. Its not a easy decision to walk away from a collection that has been a focus for 10 years, but I was able to see off my $40,000 Star War & my $40,000 1/18 scale WW11 collections in the last 5 years, to make room for my current 1/30 scale TS hobby. It will be a sad day for me when I apply the same logic for my current passion. Cheers, Robin.

It's a bit like deciding which three books you'd want on a deserted island. I love my John Jenkins Jacobites, so those, or a selection of them. Probably my K & C Black Watch too - kilts again but as vividly in defence as the others are in attack. Then for number three - probably my K & C Crusaders?? With my mounted Irish knight being the first one selected. My Timpo swoppet vikings would also have to come as well, but being plastic I could sneak those in anywhere!

No room for your orcs?

"No room for your orcs?"

Well it's more the Urak Hai of my Helms Deep battle set. Taking those goes without saying. They would take the place of food obviously.

^This... but I suppose if it ever came down to a "no choice" scenario the last toy soldiers I would part with would be my glossy naps... just too much sentimental attachment to let them go.

I actually did downsize my collection, sold off all my LAH, Waffen SS, A/Korps, British, Americans etc. I only kept the Australian sets, but that's not to say some other sets may creep back in later - collecting is like that.

I too have been down that road. I collected seven K&C series and additionally purchased from three other vendors for items to add to those series. With the increasing prices and the rapid releases it became impossible to continue in all those areas. The question that I asked was; “not what was easy to part with”, but “what was the most difficult to lose”.

In the end it was the sets that I originally started with, were the ones that I stayed with, my K&C American Revolution.

I would try and keep at least all my Imperial Productions and John Firth painted glossy figures, a few selected WWII pieces (from K&C and also 1/72 Corgi aircraft) and FL naps (if I think further the list will become longer...^&grin).

Im thinking that all SS sets must go and just keep AK,Luftwaffe and bulge (German).

I would keep only the HB everything else could go.

I hope it never comes to downsizing, have only a relatively small collection now but getting bigger, I just could not part with any of it.
Wayne.
