If only it had gone off just a bit nearer and blown the b******s legs off. He'd have bled to death there and then and maybe just maybe thousands of lives could have been saved.

Very nice, display. These focused snippits are always very interesting. GREAT Job.
I have read a few great stories or "what ifs" on the possible consequences of a successful assassination of Hitler.
The one question that has sparked the most debate is, “If Hitler did die in one of the attempts, would that have:
(A) Shortened or ended the war;
(B) Open up the possibility that a “superior” Fuhrer would have replace him and Germany might have won the war.
(C) Ended the war immediately
(D) Prolonged the war so that millions of more might have died.
One of the movies in the “Dirty Dozen” series actually dealt with that topic. (I forget which one? Maybe “The Dirty Dozen: The Deadly Mission or The Final Mission”)
Obviously, depending on the actual death of Hitler, the outcome changes.
But if we look at the Stauffenburg attempt, as depicted here, I would suggest that whoever was to replace him would seek immediate surrender to the US/British Allies while putting everything into the Eastern Front to prevent the atrocities and the revenge that they knew were on the way.
Interesting pondering but my 4 ½ cents --- Larry
