Don't worry mate, if it falls in a heap you can drink lots of beers with us rowdy lot in Bris Vegas this July!

Nice pic's Mitch, very realistic.

If only it had gone off just a bit nearer and blown the b******s legs off. He'd have bled to death there and then and maybe just maybe thousands of lives could have been saved.

Yes, the big what if's! I was watching a doco recently about the near assassinations of Hitler and it just goes to show what a charmed life he lived until the end of course.

Yes Rob, you are totally right, it would have been an extraordinary good to mankind, not only saving thousands of lives, but probably changing post-war history itself, affecting the balance of power that was established after the end of the conflict... Anyway, although lucky to escape, at least he ended seeing and tasting the total defeat and humiliation of his thousand year Reich!

Hey guys, remember that the Stauffenburg attempt was one of the later attempts on Hitler's life. There were something like 15 attempts, many of them pre-war. Too bad that one of them didn't succeed prior to the world being dragged into the abyss. Ahh, the 'what ifs' of history. -- Al

As usual very nice Mitch, always with an eye for detail
guy:smile2:

I have heard Hitler was in a car accident in 1932, before he came to power. He was riding in the front passenger's seat and was hit broadside by a truck. He apparently walked away with a broken finger. If the truck had been going just a little bit faster...

cheers for the comments. As has been said he lived a charmed life and, was very lucky on many occasions.

Or had put the second brick of explosive in the briefcase the blast would probably have been powerful enough to kill everyone in the room.

I went to a seminar a few years back which, made a forensic case for the fact that Hitler died in the blast and, that a double was used in order to keep the war going. It made good use of images from the damage to Hitlers clothing etc and, the film used where he then greats victims etc without some of the injuries he was pictured with shortly after the blast.

Not convinced but, they did make an intersting case

Nice one Mitch. Talk about a birthday "BASH" !!! I have seen estimates that if the original July bomb plot worked, millions of lives would have been spared.

Very nice, display. These focused snippits are always very interesting. GREAT Job.

I have read a few great stories or "what ifs" on the possible consequences of a successful assassination of Hitler.

The one question that has sparked the most debate is, “If Hitler did die in one of the attempts, would that have:

(A) Shortened or ended the war;
(B) Open up the possibility that a “superior” Fuhrer would have replace him and Germany might have won the war.
(C) Ended the war immediately
(D) Prolonged the war so that millions of more might have died.

One of the movies in the “Dirty Dozen” series actually dealt with that topic. (I forget which one? Maybe “The Dirty Dozen: The Deadly Mission or The Final Mission”)

Obviously, depending on the actual death of Hitler, the outcome changes.

But if we look at the Stauffenburg attempt, as depicted here, I would suggest that whoever was to replace him would seek immediate surrender to the US/British Allies while putting everything into the Eastern Front to prevent the atrocities and the revenge that they knew were on the way.

Interesting pondering but my 4 ½ cents --- Larry

Larry, From everything that I have read the Motive for the bomb attempt in July 1944 was to remove Hitler and negotiate to bring the war to an end.The conspirators were more concerned with saving what was left of their people and country versus trying to achieve a "Final Victory". Too bad the plan failed.....
