Looking at the Eastern Conference, this looks like it could be shaping up as a Rangers - Devils Conference final, which could be an outstanding series. No love lost there; in one game this year, they started fighting as soon as the puck dropped.

"Mein Gott" those Kings are unbelievable!
The way they are playing I don,t see them losing a game!
They are making the Blues look like a minor league team.
If the Kings don,t win the cup I would be surprised.

Nice win for the Caps today. All tied at 2. Anything is possible. They are actually outplaying the Rangers.

What's that now, 27 strait one goal margin of victory games the Capitals have played in so far during the playoffs?

That Breden Smotlzy story is quite a tear jerker, from the backup to the backup to the backup to standing on his head in the playoffs................

Kings 3, Blues 1, well as I have said for the last 44 years, wait till next year!

Sorry to see your season end Gary.

This marks the second time in their 44 year history that the LA Kings have made it to the Conference Finals, roughly once every 22 years.

I heard they're rioting in the streets of LA in celebration, those diehard fans out there are over the moon happy.

Sorry, but when you are going up against a team with a storied, tradition of excellence such as that, you are doomed..........:rolleyes2:

The Kings are 8-1 and have rolled the top two seeds in the west. It's a minor miracle. Phoenix is playing well. That should be an interesting series. The Kings have never trailed in a series even though they played the first two on the road against Vancouver and St. Louis. I would be curious to see how they react if they lose game one in the next round. Quick is the man though in goal. If the Kings can score two goals, they are hard to beat.

I agree George, those are some rabid, die hard fans in LA, pack the building, win or loose, NOT!
With Phoenix leading Nashville, what a Conference Final, LA vs Phoenix, almost like the Cardinals & Cubs, Yankees & Red Sox.
Can think of only one other city that is as hockey crazed as LA & Phoenix, and that would be Atlanta before they lost the Thrashers to Winnepeg.
All joking aside, LA looks unbeatable. I mean they sissy slapped the Blues.

Well I waited eleven pages to finally post my say on this years play-off's. First off it's nice to see that there are a few more hockey fans here on the forum. Back in the day I think it was only Combat, Gary and myself that dared to post anything regarding the ice capade's some people compared it to. :smile2:
Flash forward to this year. As some of you know I'm a die hard Wings fan so my play-off's ended early and my boys are already well tanned from being on the golf course. I must say it has been the most interesting play-off hockey I have seen in many years. Enjoyable to say the least and embarrassing to say the least all in one breath. Referring more to the Pen's/Flyers series.
Moving on to the present I'd have to say the odds sure shine towards the Kings. Like others have said they have knocked off the two top teams in their division. The break/rest should help them but time will tell. I'd like to see the Pred's make their present series with the Coyotes go to seven games but they sure have a hole to get out of.
As the old school teams hash it out in the East we have the newer teams in the West. Sure LA has been around, but like George said they haven't made a run for the Cup for quite some time. Seems like one thing you can count on in the play-off's is a unknown goalie between the pipes turning a team around and winning(LA, Pred's,Wash). Even 40 year old Broduer has returned to a trophy winner this series, especially if he can shut the door next game.
George I respect your comments on Dale Hunter. Definitley had some(okay more than one) ugly moments in his NHL career but he has turned this Washington team around. Amazing that they even made the play-offs. He certainly has rained in Ovechkin and any other player who thought of trying to be the super-star of the team. He did the same with the OHL London Knights and brought championships to that team. He also grew up not to far from the family farm so I'm kin of giving that as extra credit.
My hockey pool pick's are a shamble.I should have just made another toy soldier purchase from Treefrog. Like Gary stated "there's always next year!"
My final prediction is LA vs Devils.....LA hoists the Cup in 6 making Gretzky proud!

Great to see you posting on this, I appreciate your comments.................as far as Hunter and the Capitals; understood as to what you are saying, but they barely got into the playoffs and the only reason they are playing this 1950's style of hockey is due to the back up to the back up to the back up, aka, Smoltzy/Holtfy/Smattzy whatever his name is being between the pipes as this is a total depature from how the Capitals used to play the game.

My new adopted team is the Devils, I like their style, would love to see their goalie go out a winner, he was in his day a top shelf spectacular goalie, he still can hold his ground today at 40ish.

Would love to see them knock of the Flyers and then the Rangers/Capitals and move on to the finals to face the Kings.

Maybe for old times sake the Kings can go back to those purple and gold uniforms with the kings crown on the front, old school for sure, dig them out of the moth balls................

Here's hoping Phoenix closes out Nashville tonight if for no other reason than I won't have to look at those God awful Predators home uniforms anymore...................just brutal, they look like something strait out of the WHA in the 70's.

So Sammy, tell me; is Stanley Cup fever growing out in Phoenix?

If you don't know, ask one of the 6 million bluehairs dining at Denny's at any point during the week.................

Ugh. The Caps are within 6 seconds of going up 3-2 and give up the tying goal. Brutal. On to OT.

Not brutal at all: just fantastic!

Make sure when you send the check to the refs you put a lot of zeros and crooked numbers on it.

The Capitals got screwed royally, two power play goals, first with .06 left, next one in overtime.

What a joke.

Just two games to go for a NY NJ battle to decide who wins the Stanley Cup.

And it's over. Brutal loss for the Caps. They are cursed.

The best players on the ice last night for the Rangers were the refs, nice bag job.

The Capitals have for the most part outplayed the Rangers, they've had buzzards luck with two OT losses.

It's far from over; win on home ice and force a game 7 and anything is possible.

And what's with the confetti last night; I expected the announcers to yell "AND THE RANGERS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!"................oh wait, sorry, "And the Rangers win game five."

Do they do that after every home win as if so, they're confetti budget must be about 16,345.56.............

Nashville is out, setting up the duel in the desert between those two powerhouses, the kings and the coyotes.

The Caps have played them even or slightly better, but that kind of loss might finish them. Anything is possible though. Maybe they are due to catch a break. Phoenix-LA is going to be a great series. Both teams are red hot. The first game is going to be huge for the Kings.
