A few months back we added a special K&C sub-forum specifically to set apart threads for diorama and scene pictures for easy reference and we stated that members could choose to place their dio thread either in the new sub-forum or the main K&C discussion forum. This has actually caused a lot of confusion as some people assume if there is a dio area all dio threads should be in it while other people only put their dio threads in one place or the other and some even both.
We decided the easiest way to clear up the confusion was to have the members who use the King & Country area decide what they preferred, via a vote.

My personal feeling is that putting dio threads in the dio sub-forum makes the most sense as you can find them easily, there is a consistent standard operating procedure as to where to post what and non-dio discussions are easier to find & follow in the main discussion area. However other people may prefer the variety of dio and discussion threads all together or may feel that sometimes pictures in a dio thread will spur a lively discussion so they prefer to put their thread in the discussion area. It's really up to you.

This vote is meant for those who use the K&C area of the forum to set it up for best ease of use for those who frequent it. There is obviously no point in voting if you are not active in this area.

One vote per person, two choices:
1. I prefer that all K&C dio and scene threads go into the K&C dio and scene sub-forum and not in the main K&C discussion area.
2. I prefer that K&C dio and scene threads continue to be posted in either the K&C dio and scene sub-forum or the main K&C discussion area.

The voting booth/poll will be open for a week. Voting will be anonymous-I look forward to hearing what you think.

I like the 'both' option myself, with perhaps one teeny request!:redface2:In regard to the main K&C area, If someone posts say five or six threads in a day that are very similar then it would be a big help if they could be folded into one, this just saves everybody elses threads been pushed down the forum. This happened in the last day or so, one member posted some superb scenes, really good work, but they probably could have been folded into less threads to allow others threads to flourish. Just a view:smile2:

Thanks for raising this Shannon

Personally, I do not mind where they are but would prefer not to have so many seperate threads for the same theme / series of photos. This is not about someone posting this week - it has been happening for a while.

The WB AZW thread has had 1/4 million visits and 5000+ replies - we all just add pictures to the same thread.

It would be good if KC WWII posters would do the same, as often new posts on a variety of topics get missed because they are moved off of page 1

I prefer that all dios go into the sub forum only and that any dios are not included in the post limit (which I still don't like) I think that will made things better for all.

The only thing I thought the dio section would do is have certain members dio's in one thread so say poster A would post all the dio's he makes under one thread title IE X's dio's and then members go and look through each persons thread. Its as hard to find dio's now as it ever was. perhaps a tidy up would also be helpful? I voted to keep the dio area as a seperate entity from the general discussion area

Makes sense, Mitch, it's similar to the gallery areas used on some other forums (HZ-Forum, for example).

Prost!

I do agree with Mitch. Dios in the dio section of the K&C forum. But I thought that the policy was one or a limited number of dio threads per collector to bring all present and futur dios of that collector under that same heading for example "Waynepoo's dios collection WWI- Western front- French" and "Waynepoo's dio collection WWII - Normandy/German " etc ......Now there are so many dios posted by so many collectors at random about so many periods of war that they quickly disappear from page 1. After a couple of days they are hard to find at all because titles don't say everything.( that's what happened to me returning from holidays) I hope you understand what I mean.

I think separate threads are fine generally, it's only when there is a few on the same day that are all pretty much the same with figures moved round. And I'm not talking about Wayne(poo) here either. As he was one of the most compliant and helpful of regular posters when all this came up.

What I've done in the past is put my latest dio in normal area where everyone can comment and then started a ' dio album' featuring all my work in the K&C dio area.

I would prefer that people post their dios in their own thread and just update each time they have a new one to show. I am not a fan of everyone on the same thread, because gumbies like me end up posting after Fitzgibbon, Wayne or Firebat. It is not that people will be mean that bothers me (in fact people are invariably kind. Its the nicest part of the forum) - its that they will be too kind and say 'nice pile of dirt and I like the way you have placed those three soldiers on it'! I posted one of a crashed camel which for me was high art, but for others it was a Grade Three art project, and someone - Guy perhaps - suggested that the plane could have been positioned differently. He was quite right too and I knew that the moment I read the post. I appreciated the 'nice dios' but that kind of feedback was really helpful and whether he would have been comfortable offering it if my dio had appeared side by side with one that looked as though it was real is doubtful. Personal threads lets me compete against myself.

Once in awhile Jack is right about something and this is one of those times and don't let him fool you we are quite mean to him off the forum..:wink2: so to ease his distress ...:rolleyes2: I will in the future put all I do under the one thread and if this helps the general running of the forum all the better, again I will put my two bobs worth in....please do not include dios in the post count....:)

Why tahnk you Wayne - and in return, can I assure that if there is ever a poll about voting you off the Forum, I will abstain.

I think Guy has said it well.

I prefer all K&C dios in one area.

I dont like the Zulu thread as an example simply becuase it is so long and everything gets lost. It would be very difficult to find a particular dio.

I like the way Villagehorse does his dio threads. He has one personal thread in the main dio area (because he is using many brands) but will then do seperate dios in the approriate areas.

I often refer people to look at dios when I know it is their area of interest. So for example I might remember X did a great WWI dio with an artillery piece. However if the thread title has no clue as to images in the thread I have a hard time trying to find it.

Whilst some thread titles are also amusing or appropriate. I prefer a title that identifies what might be inside. So for example Farewell my love might be a Jenkins Taxi and French soldier with wife. It would help if it said Farewell my love (WWI French). A title might say Lunch but if you are a Napoleonic collector you might not want to look if it is German tankers having lunch. So German Tankers having Lunch is better.

One of the problems is some flooding a section with multiple dio threads in a short period of time. This pushes other threads off the front page very quickly and can cause some irritation to others. I have no idea if TF/Mods have a word with members on this but it would help if sometimes they did.

Regards
Brett
PS Leaving the house now !!!

Although it's nice to troll the sub forum full of diorama's for ease, nice to spice up the main forum occasionally with an odd diorama, to keep it from getting too serious, cheers, Robin.

I would prefer the dio threads to stay where they are and i also agree that new dio's posted by a member should be kept in that member's dio thread rather than starting a new thread each time. I have been guilty of starting new dio threads and i can understand the issues in having multiple individual dio threads. I also agree with Waynepoo that dio posts should not be included in your monthly posting limit.

Dear Shannon:

I seem to prefer having the option #2. When one is just posting a few photos of a new diorama it seems to be more easy to just post a few photos of the new stand alone Thread of a particular diorama under the normal K&C Thread.

Just leave things alone there's enough changes going on around here, big deal if you post it in the wrong section is that a crime as well now,is there a limit on Dio,s as well................^&confuse

It seems at times it gets a little slow in the main thread section, where new dio's that pop up there keeps things interesting. I agree with Rob's comments about if you are going to post 4 or 5 threads under K&C, try and consolidate them when possible.

Dear Shannon,

This is an intresting poll!
I have never realised the consequences of opening a small thread with some pics on the general forum, but the number of replies are obvious. The average number of replies on a dio thread is about 25? instead of a few hundreds on the discussion threads. We , dio froggers, are the Sylvester Stallones of he forum: No talking but plenty action!
Indeed, by opening threads with less replies, we are slowing down discussings by pushing other threads away to the second page...
My suggestions:
- dios in the subforum
- one thread per dioposter/member
- also diothreads where everyone can post together about the same subject: Waterloo, Bastonge, Normandy etc.: its nice to compare different styles and ideas to improve your work
- on the general forum a so called promotion thread, a member can advertise there his last pictures so that we don't have to go through the whole subforum to discover the last edition of pics.

Normally, I would say if it's not broke, don't fix it (although I assume the subject was raised in response to some concerns) but I do like Eddy's points. For years people posted on Carlos' thread do a dio tonight and that seem to work well. Perhaps organizing subjects thematically would save Shannon bandwidth, if that's a concern.
