Poppo...

when you build dio's you inevitably find a formula that works and some designs which you think work and that you adapt to over time. This does look like some that have been done before but, when you are asked to do something specific for a collector that is what you have to do you can add bits but, at the end of the day its their choice. Its hard often to recreate what a customer wants in their minds eye.

Again, and I have had this myself recently when people post diorama's etc they are putting significant work etc into the scene and, should be supported there is room for constructive comment if they ask for it or, it should be done with tact and better in PM as you just don't know how someone will react to their work which they may see as a master piece but, others don't will react.

Many of your early attempts at dio's and repaints were not met with derision and were actually praised for having a go so, perhaps you should elaborate on your comments to offer constructive input than its just a bag.

Well said...support and constructive comment......well put Mitch....TomB

Honestly, I wouldn' t like to have any of those dios at home: all are too crowded, irrealistic, colors too bright. A bridge on the mountains? KC love this kind as they have already made a lot in this style....But sorry, most bridges are on a plain with water under them.....

I'm no angel when it comes to the odd side-swipe, but having a crack at someone else's work is pretty low in my book, regardless of who it is......poor form son....... and as for the comments about most bridges being on a plain, that's got to be one of the most ridiculous remarks I've heard on this forum all year.

The moderators of this forum make their job in a strict way , and this is good, so, if a post is not moderated, that means that it is a legitimate point of view....But maybe, you think that only compliments and agreements should be made on a subject or dio, good, that' s your point of view, but for myself, I would not go crying in a corner or feel insulted if someone makes a critic about a dio' s of mine( or other), every point of view is interesting to me....Being an adult I can accept critics ( positives and negatives). About the bridges on a plain, well, I prefer like that, if you find this ridiculous, so have a laugh :wink2:

You have the right to have an opinion .......if people do not agree...that is their opinion.....cheers .TomB

Actually, when I first read your original post I did have a good laugh because I thought you were joking and then I thought maybe I'd missed something in translation.....but then realised no, it is what it is.

As you'll be aware there's a fine line between constructive criticism and simply having a dig at someone or their work, which to me is clearly what you were doing.

I don't believe those types of comments are in the 'spirit' of the forum and have nothing to do with being an adult or agreeing or disagreeing with your point of view. I think it's just proper social etiquette, to compliment someone or make some constructive suggestions or give ideas.....

I don't necessarily like every dio I've viewed on here, but I don't then turn around and pick it to bits either.

For me, members should be encouraged and commended for taking the time and effort to share with the forum, their dios and displays.......it's simply appreciating other members efforts.

Regards.

Superb scene Gordon, I always enjoy your work and it was your skill and that of a certain UKReb that convinced me to have a go myself.

Best regards

Rob

Toddy mate,
I'm with you cobber, could not believe what I was reading. Reminds me of what my dear departed mum use to say "If you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all."
Gordon's dios are some of the best in the world. First class.
Cheers Howard

Dear Mr. Poppo,

Many thanks for your recent comments on my “Three Bridges” diorama for our Russian dealer.

Would you be so kind as to post some photos of your own dioramas in order that I can return the compliment?

Sincerely yours,

Gordon C.

Thanks Howard, funny you mention that saying, my 95yr old grandmother is very fond of it and a few other classic old gems, bless her. Yes, Gordon's dio's are really something and you can tell he thoroughly enjoys his craft.{bravo}}

Gordon mate,
I'm with you. Would like to see some of Mr.Poppo's dios. Having met you on a few occassions I know you to be a outstanding craftsman and a top bloke, but how could that not be, being that you are Andy's brother.^&grin^&grin How's that for "P" ing in your pocket.:smile2:
Cheers Howard

I think you will find he has posted some in his time on here but, where are we going with this? it really seems in one breath we are chastising people for being unnecessarily negative and, as has been said not posting in the spirit of the forum (though the spirit is more myth sadly than reality) and in the next don't say anything if its not nice then having fun seemingly goading a member who just does not like a dio for whatever reason and then trying to belittle his work.

How some of you ever wish to have a forum where it is fun and whatever else you pine for yet happily jump all over those deemed as acceptable to do so amazes me

It seems some don't practice what they like to preach.
Mitch

I very much disagree. There are some fine dio makers on the forum, and IMO, Gordon is one of the finest. Each dio maker tends to have a style so there are some similarities from dio to dio. But keep in mind - Gordon produceds his dios under some tough constraints. The dios must be interesting and be designed to realistically hold a variety of vehicles. The same base often is used with vehicles for several different scenarios. The dios must be portable to toy shows which constrains the length and width forcing a multi-level dio to show lots of vehicles and to create a complex but interesting landscape that can be viewed from several directions including some from 360 degrees.

Most of us would kill for one of Gordon's dios. Hopefully, you can see them in person one day Poppo.

I am sorry but what appear ridiculous to me is jumping on a bloke for expressing his honest opinion, along with its basis. You don't have to agree but it would seem much less low in my book to simply explain why rather than just being personally negative because you do not happen to agree.

As to the suggestion that you can't comment on something unless you offer your own version. I hope those comments were tongue in check, otherwise they are silly on their face.

I think my previous post on the subject clearly explains my stand on Poppos original post and my reasoning behind it. Sure he's entitled to express his 'honest opinion', as am I........and as far as I am concerned his comments were disrespectful and completely unnecessary.

If you feel it's appropriate to make insulting comments about another's work, then that's up to you, but I don't and I'm not alone.

Lets just agree to disagree shell we?
