Hello

Nice to see

If you are looking for actual makers here a link to 100ed of adresses

Amazing some of these flats aren't they! ^&cool

A good idea for a thread Ray and I am looking forward to seeing more of your collection.

Jeff :salute::

A friend of mine many years ago used to collect flats and had them displayed mounted in picture frames. I took some out to have a closer look and he had only painted one side! {sm2}

G'day mate, Love the work. You do them very fine as well. I have only done a few flats and the depth of field you achieve with highlights and shading is magic in the finish. Interesting that you do them in the US. They are more common in Europe. I'm in Australia and there aren't a lot of painters here who do flats. Love your work mate. Cheers, Johno.:D

Although I don't collect flats, your collection is amazing. Thank you for sharing it with us. Boy, this is tempting.

Hi Dave,
Yes I have more, my primary interest is Napoleonic and ancients, no WWI or Franc Prussian, but give me time!!

Hello Mirof,
just don't know all the makers and most of the sets are commissions I have done to my specs.
One "brand" I can recommend is these Two Trees co. sets:
French Old Guard in Grey coats

Russian Guards Currassiers at Austerlitz 1806

Hi Jeff,
Always nice to hear from you, all my flats are painted on both sides, I've had single sided ones but they drove me crazy AND I HAD THEM REPAINTED!{sm3}

These are mostly French Old Guard and some Line Infantry in review

Thank you John,
wish I could take credit for doing these but I've just not got the talent for work as fine as this, most are commissions, I have a fine artist in St. Petersburg, Russia who does great work. I have to be very patient as the process generally is buy them via internet in Europe, ship to USA, communicate wants and work out detail with google translate to Russia, ship to Russia, wait till there painted and shipped back, 6 months not uncommon.

These 2 sets were bought as seen on ebay:
French general Staff and Bonaparte at Borodino 1812 and The Old Guard

Thank you Mike, coming from a collector who I greatly admire for your collection is a real pleasure :salute::

You may note at this point a large percentage of Russian Napoleonic units, this is directly relateable to my experience as a young boy seeing for the first time Audrey Hepburn and Henry Fonda in War and Peace, first exposure to napoleonics.
Battle for the redoubt Borodino 1812
These are the Russian and French regiments engaged at the Great redoubt at Borodino

Russian Line infantry 1812 (two trees)

French dragoons(two trees + couple of others)

Not wanting to intrude too much in your thread but would it be ok to post some photos of the flats I have in my collection? Let me know if you are cool with this.

Dave

I would love to collect flats and have been tempted to buy from Ebay, many times. But then I see the closeups of the painting and I get gun shy. Not all flats are equally well painted. Are there current painted flat mfgs. out there? Michael

Next year, my wife and I have put down a deposit on a Trafalgar "Finland, Russia, and the Baltic States" tour. I believe that Borodino is one of the stops. I can hardly wait to see it. I hope they have some toy soldiers in the gift shop.

Take a look at Berliner Zinnfiguren site Michael - plenty of painted flats there - including some very nice Heyde Replica figures ( amongst many others). Best place I know - plus at least one of the Staff (Burkhard) speaks English - and will help with transactions via e-mail. Link below: jb

Mike,
I'm a little green around the edges hearing about a great trip like that, great indigenous atmosphere and my favorite adult beverage is pretty popular in that region :rolleyes: I've seen on line the museum rotundra for lack of a better word, with it's 360 degree panorama of the battle, should be Great!!

another view of the Westphalian Jaegers, great uniforms
