I wouldn't call it a thaw but at least the Met's signed Frazier yesterday.
Judging from the slow market and lack of long-term/big money signings, I think that he will sit a lot longer than just the start of the season if he insists on waiting for what he thinks he is worth. We have seen that what the players perceive as their value and what the teams perceive as the player's value seem to be hugely different , at least it appears that way in relation to this year's FA market. Teams could be hoarding their big dollars for the FA market following the 2018 season. Who will crack first? -- AlI just read that JD Martinez might sit out the start of the season if he isn't offered the free agent contract that he wants.
This could get interesting.
May not lead to the domino effect but it does help the Cubs a bit, and helps to set a value for the top end pitchers. Arrieta is going to have to scale back his $200/180 million dollar contract expectations. Taking $20 million per year as a guide, he might get the money per year but I don't see him getting the years to reach the $200/180 million figure. Now that Darvish has signed it will be interesting to watch the fallout. --AlI keep on thinking that once one falls they will all fall like dominoes but I am not so sure that the Darvish signing means much in the way of anyone else.

Pitchers and catchers are in camp. Countdown to Opening Day is on. Now the problem...O's have done nothing about the SP question, as of yet, and the clock is officially ticking...ticking...ticking... -- Al
It’s apparent that players still have high salary requests. It’s also not surprising that not one Boras player has signed. Teams have wised up and are not handing out stupid contracts, especially to ageing players. In addition, the Union has not been smart; the qualifying offer has hurt the free agent market. There are going to be many major leaguers who won’t have jobs come opening day.
Looks like the O's finally have started to address the SP problems as they have announced the signing of Texas FA RHP Andrew Cashner. He is no Cy Young threat, (42-64, 3.80 ERA, lifetime), but he is a step towards rebuilding the SP staff. Glad to finally see some movement for the O's. Cashner got $16 million for 2 years. -- AlPitchers and catchers are in camp. Countdown to Opening Day is on. Some surprising names still unsigned, as we have discussed. Many bullpen arms still available and, as Brad points out, many who will not get signed. Thanks for posting the link. -- AlHere's the latest FA tracker, https://www.mlbdailydish.com/2017/11/8/16621988/2017-2018-mlb-free-agent-tracker
Although many have signed and there's still many who haven't, many of the remaining unsigned FAs are not of the highest quality. A lot of them will not have jobs in MLB.

Interesting. The daily local baseball talk show said nothing about this other than the opinion that Arrieta might be nearing panic mode over not having a job. Arrieta may not be what he was 3 years ago, but I'm sure the Nats would welcome him, for a 2 or 3 year contract. I seriously doubt the Nats would go 4 or 5 years, not with having to make a run at keeping Harper. -- AlI heard that the Nats and Arrieta may be talking.

I imagine any deal for Arrieta is going to have to be a bargain for the Nats or it will not happen. First off is the Harper situation, and second off is the fact that the Nats don't really need him. Arrieta would step in as a #3 or #4 starter. Nats are set as they stand with a solid 1-4 with only #5 a question. Arrieta would solve the hole but the Nats aren't going to bust the bank for him. But, you can never have enough pitching... -- AlAl:
Local Bay Area sports talk mentioned a possible Arrieta and Nats union this afternoon, however they also mentioned concerns about spending too much because of Harper.
