ordering from KC/UK... unbelievable (1 Viewer)

i should have posted this last month when it happened but i've been very busy. i needed three items for a diarama but no one in the states had them in stock. went on the KC/UK website, they had the items in stock. i put the order in on tuesday, got an email from mike on wednesday that the items were shipped, and friday morning the package arrived. i'm still in shock. it takes longer to send a letter down the block. thanks for the extraordinary service mike and the KC/UK staff.

Pugio - I don't know whether it's psychological, an example of an indecipherable mystery, or simply down to the vagueries of ordering anything at all by mail order, but I've had precisely the same experience when ordering from some dealers over your side of the pond - receiving the goods in under a week, quicker than if I'd ordered them from the UK.

As for prices Billy, unless you know something I don't, I can't see why you would order any K+C products from the UK if you live in the US - unless nobody over there has got any left. I live in the UK and order everything I can from the US because, at the moment at any rate, it saves me money -

I dont blame you when it comes to saving the pennies.

Funny thing though we have UK customers asking us if we will exchange items they dont like, is broken, etc that they have bought from the states. Myself and Shannon have spoken about this and how we could help each other out! But the taxes etc dont work out!

We even had a guy the other day ask if we would send him an item as he was waiting three weeks from a dealer......not in the States. Best bit for free as he had already paid for it to the other dealer and......check this out....'could we not get our money from the dealer!' eeeeeeeerrrr no!

Good luck to you as i have been stung in the past (people know on here iam also a Star Wars collector) when the UK postie gets you with the slip it hurts and in my case more than if i bought in the UK.

But hey when i was in Chicago when your getting $2 - £1 i was spending like it was going out of fashion.......and it does not look like changing.

But there is talk in HK that the HK$ will be de tagged from the US$ be interesting to see what happens then with Global pricing!

From my view on this side of the pond (US), the Nevilles are first rate. Mike has sold me some pieces I could never find here and the service is unbeatable (just like Treefrogs!!! and I would be wrong if I didn't mention Sierra and George and Larry in NV and Craig in CA too.) That is the beauty of this hobby, mostly good people all around. But as for the Nevilles, they are tops in the UK.

Have to disagree with Richard on this one.I've always found K&C UK absolutely superb service,they've always gone out of their way to help and their postal service is second to none.I must have placed dozens of orders with them over the years and never has one item been late or mislaid.I've always been stung bad by UK customs everytime i've ordered from abroad.Also any Refund or replacements are dealt with so quickly it just makes more sense.

I was merely pointing out that on more than one occasion I have ordered stuff from America, China, HK and had it arrive in double-quick time, often faster than things I have ordered from companies in the UK - not necessarily K+C, not even necessarily toy soldiers.

I'm a little perplexed by the comment you make regarding HMRC stinging you when stuff arrives in the UK. Toy soldiers don't attract customs duty - I've certainly never paid any on any of the orders I've placed so far - a small amount of VAT and the inevitable handling costs once the order lands, that's it - and I still save money -

No offence, but I would say that you've been extremely lucky not to have incurred customs charges when importing toy soldiers. I was charged £40 when I sent my daughter an MP3 player via DHL for her birthday a couple of years ago. This was 50% of the original price. Guess you must catch Her Majesties Commissars on days when the canteen beans are particularly good.

Hi Richard,i think you have been very lucky mate.I recently ordered from Treefrog the superb Figarti V1 and got stung for thirty big ones.I almost always get caught by the good old customs.Perhaps its just me they don't like!!

Can someone explain the economic reasons for the price variations between the UK and the US?

Is it a result of heavy taxes in the UK or is the US collectable market more price sensitive than the UK? Or is it a China/Hong Kong versus the UK thing?

This is not just a K & C pricing matter as it occurs in most collectables I'm involved with. For example a Corgi model priced at US $50 usually sells for at least GBP 50 in the UK - which is not the same value is it.

I think it is in the main the fact that we get hammered with taxes. There is import tax on anything coming in to the country outside the EU and then everything sold at retail is subject to VAT (value added tax) at 17.5%.
