When asked if it was appropriate to have a man in the Oval Office today who murdered a journalist and threw him into a woodchipper, Trump said "things happen."

My question, was that a fair question? Was this Prince the one who ordered and allowed that to happen?

Personally, I think it is better policy to work with the Saudis and keep them close. Typically, the leadership there has been more in line with the USA and against Iran and the usual terrorists. Do they have issues in their own house? Absolutely, they have terror within that could topple them, radical terror. IMO, we cannot allow that to happen and we need them as an ally. I also would like to see the Saudis come more in line with Israel. I think if you have that alliance, you have a much quieter Middle East which is better for everyone.

Turkish intelligence gathered audio recordings from inside the consulate on the day of the murder. Reports indicate that U.S. intelligence agencies intercepted communications where aides discussed bringing Khashoggi back by force or a comment by MBS that if Khashoggi couldn't be enticed home, he would go after him "with a bullet" (though analysts noted this might be a metaphor for silencing him). Another report mentioned a member of the hit team made a call to an aide in MBS's inner circle saying "tell your boss the deed was done".

15 of the19 9/11 bombers were from Saudi and a further US report has highlighted that the funding was from Saudi sources. Plus evil personified, bin Laden, was born in Riyadh.

It is just the way the world is, i went to a lecture from a former British Ambassador and he said if we only did business with nice people then we would no business at all. While you could also quote "The enemy of my enemy is my friend".

All Western countries are the same, we have a political system that runs along the lines of 'Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others' [Groucho Marx - love Groucho, he was a real wordsmith]. Same with many country's international relations, reality bites and you have to turn a blind eye. Now for me an interesting question is 'What would they have to do to change that situation?'

in answer to your question about was it the right question, i think the answer is yes, not only for above reasons, but they are journalists and it is their job to ask questions, you may not like the questions, but i want to live in a society where we have people willing to ask those type of questions. If not then you are in Russia, North Korea, Turkmenistan, Iran, Myanmar, oh and Saudi Arabia. Biden was asked the same or similar questions when he met the Saudi's, by US journalists.

I don't necessarily disagree here. I just think we have an awful bias in our US press corps that I sometimes question their usefulness. If they all played it straight and factual, different story. Too many of them have their own agenda.

Main point for me is what you are saying, I would rather do business with the Saudis and keep them close than not. We have aligned interests.

I have added to my posting while you were replying, think there was no bias, as they asked the same questions of Biden when he had meetings with the Saudi's, too many sources to quote, just google it. Cannot see what was not straight or untrue about their questioning, while we have to realise the journalists are there to sell papers, TV air time, get traffic to their websites, they have to get a news story, so need the scoop as they used to say. I wonder if the Saudi's would have been offened if he had called the journalist a 'Piggy'.

I find it unusual that your comment was posted in the "Things that I really like" thread...seems more appropriate to me to have it in the "Things I really hate" thread...regardless...I'm not trying to dictate or force my beliefs on what you like or dislike...

and you put a bit of a "spin" on the question she asked...anyone who reads your post would be under the illusion that she made the question more offensive...inflammatory and gruesome than she really did...there was no embellished mention of a wood chipper...just a reporter asking a legitimate question and doing their job...

It has been completely biased in a lot of ways which makes legit reporters fume also. Due to the ratings race between Fox, CNN and the mainstreams, they are all completely guilty of crap journalism. Trying to find actual facts in any newscast is a herculean effort. I am thoroughly sick of it, so I tend to just ignore all of this Legit Or Not Legit press crapola.

SO for me, until the press corps decide to leave their politics at the door and actually endeavor to report the facts, none of them hold a lot of water for me. If I want entertainment, I don't need to watch the news, I would rather watch a fictional movie.

I am not sure what is worse over the last decade - Trump's confrontational and combativeness toward the press or Biden hiding from the press or reading from a script when addressing the press. ALL crap.

And on a final personal note, the reporting on Israel is what drove the nail for me. Somehow, the press has no recollection of the last 80 years since 1948 and how Israel has been in a never ending war thanks to their "peaceful" neighbors. Absolute Shiite.

The “press” completely lost me when the hostages/victims of the October 7 massacre were finally released.

ABC, CBS, NBC, etc., coverage never mentioned that the hostages were taken as part of one of the greatest atrocities in recent history.

They made it seem as though those innocent victims got lost on a hike and they were rescued by park rangers.

As was clearly demonstrated by the exposure of the BBC's Panorama Trump documentary, nothing is immune and footage too is easily diced and sliced to reflect these opinions.

Where once upon a time you could view/hear 'news' from so-called reputable broadcasters and be confident there was a degree of accuracy to what you were being told.........now its a dogs breakfast of lies and deceit and AI is now taking this to a whole new level.

I only watch MSM now-a-days to gain a better understanding of what rubbish they are pushing, opposed to anything remotely informative or fact based. I go else where for that and the contrast is more than a little sobering....

More than once I've told him it was a shame he never got to have a discussion with Brett Williams, I've never known Two men that have almost identical personalities, yet have such polarised political beliefs

Oz........Brett and I exchanged emails regularly most weeks and discussed a raft of topics and I can say we held similar beliefs on many things. I miss those chats and still shocked about his sudden passing.

I find the whole anti-Trump thing quite boring, MSM would have you believe he's Satan in a suit. While I certainly don't agree with everything he does, he gets stuff done one way or the other.

As you know State funded broadcasters are nothing more than propaganda machines. Then you have those few individuals & their friends who actually own and control the rest of our main stream media. When you dig into these media 'businesses' and their owners, what you find is truly scary.

What gets me is the increasing number of 'idiots' we seem to be surrounded by these days. People who willing soak up this 'mis-information/disinformation and treated it as fact because the BBC, CNN, ABC etc etc told me so......I don't use the term 'dumb' to describe these folks cause many are supposedly quite intelligent, however I guess if you repeat lies often enough people will believe anything.

For example, apparently their are more than 2x sexes (male/female) and trans-men can have babies........who knew?!

I'm the same. As I age, I find myself less inclined to engage with clowns, although they can be very entertaining.
