Things that annoy me (11 Viewers)

No big deal, they're only calling for 18 to 24 inches here of heavy wet snow, high winds, blizzard conditions.

What a horrendous winter this has been, cold AND storm after storm, usually it's one or the other, not both.

It's times like this where I am glad I live in a condo, let someone else break their hump shoveling and plowing.
Great for your Stalingrad display. If only the Rams were playing.

RFK pushes anti-vax platforms based on nonsense while promoting his own “wellness alternatives” that net him millions.

Big Pharma pushes over priced drugs and vaccines that are sold out while crying about regulations that limit their sales.

Health insurance lobbyists give 50% of their donations to Republicans and 50% to Demonstrate in a we can’t lose strategy.

While everyday people like me with a debilitating disease literally pay for all of this greed via suffering and untimely death.

I am really looking forward to the “my side is better than yours” response to this.
Yes Big Pharma is greedy as hell. I take a medication that if I had to pay for would be $16,000 a month. Thankfully I'm in a program where I don't have to pay anything or I would be a dead man.

How giddy the weathermen get when the next storm of the century is about to clobber us, they get all tingly in their junk over a blizzard rolling in with 60 MPH winds and predicted 2 feet of accumulation.

Morons.

It's tough enough coping with health issues in Australia, my heart goes out to my American forum friends that literally cannot afford decent health care.

Prior to turning 65, I had health insurance through the Massachusetts small business association, it started out 20 or so years ago at about 600.00 a month; the last year I had it, it basically doubled to 1200.00 a month and again, that's with a discount, not to mention, every office visit/urgent care trip required a 50.00 copay, then I'd often have to pay more to see a specialist or for lab work.

I was blessed to be in good health during that 20 year run, so no major expenses aside from the monthly premiums, now I am on Medicare which pays 80% and a supplement that covers the other 20% plus prescription drugs, my total cost monthly now is about 400.00, I also have a 400.00 yearly deductible, so I am paying about 1/3rd of what I used to pay.

oh yea...
and thank God for those supplemental policies...smartest thing I ever bought...
same thing...about $350 a month...
it's a little pricey...but the surgeries I have had in the last 3 years were financially outrageous...
if I had to pay that 20%....it would have put a serious dent in my monies...
and yes...any drug in my formulary is covered...
you're lucky...stay healthy...

Wow George, no wonder Health insurance seems like a luxury to some US citizens, those prices are outrageously expensive, at least by Australian standards.

I never made a kings ransom as a police officer but our retirement benefits are fantastic. I pay "zero" for health insurance. For years my wife had Blue Cross-Shield at around $400 a month. We finally looked into one of those plans , I really don't know the formal name for this type of insurance but she now has Aetna. No monthly premiums however there is a $3600 deductable per year. Last year when all was said and done we saved over $3600. I was skeptical about this plan but completely changed my tune.

The Lakers are a hot steaming mess even with Luka playing at an MVP level. Painful to watch. No defense. No hustle. No desire. Nice to see Pat Riley get his statue, though. Unfortunately, it reminds me how great those 80s Laker teams were in comparison to this mess.

Luka's whole career can be summed up on the play tonight where he hit a three, there was slight contact so he flopped to the floor trying to draw a foul, didn't get it, whined about it sitting on the floor as the Celtics raced up the court with a 5 on 4 and got a bunny lay up.

Outrageous is more like it, I pissed away a crap ton of money on health insurance that aside from an annual physical, eye exam, hearing test and skin exam, rarely used aside from the occasional flu/bronchitis/COVID nonsensical jabs....................blessed to be so healthy, but I got raked over the coals on premium costs.

Also, in this country, you have to show proof of health insurance when you file your income taxes, no way around not having it if you are a US citizen.

If you're an illegal in this country, you can either get away with it or get it for free.

This thread has mainly been a collection of random, sometimes witty rants, usually by grumpy old forum members, including myself.
This thread is for me a place to come and carpet bomb the forum with sarcasm, 99% of what I write on here is just that, humor/East Coast sarcasm is my crutch, I'm not trying to offend anyone or upset anyone, it's just a way to vent and get away from all the nonsense in the world is all, it's all in good fun and I get the impression that most here fully understand that.

Thanks for understanding my intent and yes, I'm getting old and complaining is one of my hobbies now, good to get this stuff off my chest and vent to a bunch of good chaps/guys/blokes on this forum.

Last time I had private health insurance was about 10 years ago when I had a prostate operation with a bladder neck incission, fun times. Although I had been paying about $200 per month I was hit with a gap fee about $3,500. Both cheap by US standards, your costs are crazy. After that operation I cancelled my private health insurance and went full public hospital, the waiting times can be months longer but costs are zero or subsidised depending on the procedure, medication etc.

Same as most people, I can easily spot sarcasm when the appropriate emojis are used, otherwise not so much ;)

Although I've never met you George, I've known you for a long time and have enjoyed your posts over the years, same with 'most' of my other 'forum friends'. I'm sure I bore the tits off my friends and family when I tell them the latest on Treefrog, but I like the interaction here and that's all that matters to me.

Imagine the 80's Lakers on hand for "Pat Riley night" had to sit through that game, or at least the first half.

Speaking of statues, here's an idea for a Luka version.............

I will take the snow because I can't take the politics in other States
if you are talking about Maryland, I agree. However, I will take every other State other than VA, south and slightly west of me! Snow is another reason I am not staying where I am. Hate it, maybe worse than my own State Politics.

BTW, your Governor is talking about pausing Data Centers.......................someone should remind him that they are the gem of Illinois development for the last 20 years that actually brought some citizen property taxes lower in a lot of villages. IMO, what an idiot. And before the conspiracy theory of water and electric use run rampant - they now used closed loop systems, which use less water than residential development AND they typically lower electric bills b/c they pay the highest rate AND there is plenty of electricity in the parts of Illinois where they locate.

That game last night was an embarrassment. The Lakers are so bad it is hard to watch. They are terrible on defense. They don't hustle. They don't seem to care about winning. No pride. LeBron was correct when he recently said this is not a championship team. Luka is playing lights out but no one guy can win a championship. The supporting cast on the Lakers are awful. LeBron only plays about half the games and has almost no impact even when he puts up decent numbers. I had hoped Redick would instill some pride in these guys but it's not happening. At best, they are a bubble playoff team that will get rolled in the first round.
