Restoring Brunswick Hussars- New Hope Designs.

Slowly making some progress with these figures. I Have been painting the first horse and experimenting with blue colours for the facings. There is some variation in books and illustrations as to the shade of blue. ‘Uniforms of Waterloo’ by Haythornthwaite, Cassin-Scott and Chappell describe the...

The card players - Prince August

Nice painting John:). There look to be some great relaxed poses in the Prince August range. Particularly like that standing French soldier with the mug and bonnet de police. Scott

Restoring Brunswick Hussars- New Hope Designs.

Have been working with the damaged horse first. Straightened the legs out first in hot water before stripping the paint and glue from it. Reassembled and found a lot of gaps. Filled the gaps with filler and realized that I had inadvertently put some filler into the sheepskin texture mounted...

Restoring Brunswick Hussars- New Hope Designs.

Thanks Mirof and gents. Yes that is the image the figure is modelled upon. The blue looks very blue/grey in the image. Some I have seen painted use a lighter blue though I suspect that colour is how the blue is meant to be. Scott

Films With Ancients Using Ancient Tactics

Scott, Not a movie, but a documentary series called 'Ancient Black Ops' on the History Channel recently went into depth about various ancient groups and their tactics. Worth looking out for. Scott

Restoring Brunswick Hussars- New Hope Designs.

With a break in the offing coming up I thought I might have a go at restoring these two oldies. These are New Hope Design troopers of the Brunswick Hussars. The kit is MA 0952 and apparently only 500 of these were produced. If that is true then you are looking at two fifths of one percent of...

    Still painting!

Yes, that was me John. That seller has been selling some interesting stuff recently. I purchased a Deauville Miniatures Boer War nurse a few weeks ago from them, so have managed to complete two sets of figures lately. Will post that figure in the Deauville Miniatures thread on here once...

    Still painting!

Finished these two gentleman sweating under the Spanish sun. I used the Osprey 'Spanish Army of the Napoleonic Wars Vol.3 1812-1815 as a reference. The light blue uniform is that of a Fusilier of the Castropol Infantry Regiment and the dark blue uniform is that of a Line Infantry Fusilier. These...

    Alan Caton aka Trooper

Very sad to hear that. I only knew Trooper from the forum but he was a living link to the era of model soldiers I grew up with. A wealth of knowledge of figures and kits from that era. I have a few Wilson Edwards figures that he sculpted that are treasured. I believe he also sculpted Yeomanry...

    Detached figure from base...

I wouldn't use a dremel. I use a pin vice drill that you turn by hand, holding the figure in the other. The metal used in model soldiers is soft and you have a lot of control using the pin vice drill. There are some posts concerning these repairs. Scott.

Thanks Victor. Plenty of swords available as well on that Historex list. Scott

    Still painting!

Making some progress on these. Made a sword for the figure on the left with Milliput and a paper clip, assembled and primed the figures. The primer has really brought out the detail. Researching the uniform a little more, the lion on the shako indicates that the figure is a fusilier. There seem...

Good article: "A Model Zionist" - NY man builds IDF airforce models

Great story Zach. Would be nice to see some more images of that collection. The documentary mentioned in the story following looks interesting as well- http://jewishstandard.timesofisrael.com/above-and-beyond-2/ Scott

    Still painting!

I found these two among my collection of figures for resurrection. The figure was made by Hinchliffe and is one that was sculpted by Cliff Sanderson who also sculpted the excellent Zulu War series. The figure from the catalogue is CS21 and is described as a Spanish Infantryman from the period...
