In my experience in the U.S. its always been a modified time line. There were certain spots that got much more time and attention than others.

Red, I tend to agree also that Gettysburg was more on Stuart's shoulders than on Longstreet's, but that still doesnt take him off the hook completely for the 2nd day. On the other hand his plan to swing around the Union Army to cut them off from Washington was probably the better plan.

So far the big one is that Thomas had one more brevet during the Mexican War than Grant or Sherman and was only one behind Lee and Lee was significantly older. Cant say I buy it yet.
