Hi Guys,

Here’s a look back and a little look forward at some of our upcoming US Navy ‘bluejackets’.

Providing the central backdrop is one of two USS San Pueblo models built by my brother Gordon when K&C released the original sailors in their summer ‘whites’ a few years back.

See how many of the new figures you can spot.

Best wishes,
Andy

Such a classic flick...

Many thanks Toddy!
I first saw this movie back when it originally came out in 1966… and loved it then and still love it today.
All those years ago little did I realise that 11 years later I would come to the Far East and spend my next 45 years living and working in this amazing part of the world.

A little bit of ‘Sand Pebbles’ trivia…
Although most of the movie was shot in Taiwan, the battle of the junks where the ‘Sand Pebbles’ breaks through the barrier was actually filmed in and around some of the waters in Hong Kong’s New Territories.
An old friend of mine here was a teenager at the time and got a few days work as an ‘extra’ in the battle scene disguised as one of the Chinese irregulars defending the junks!!!

Great movie…one of Steve McQueen’s finest!

all the best,
Andy.

Hi Andy

How about an Officer marching with the 'bluejackets' shoulder arms, he was missing from the original release of the Sailors in
Undress White Service Uniform

Cheers

Martyn

Absolute pleasure sharing these classic clips. I know some of those older flicks are a bit dated these days, some like 'Sand Pebbles' have weathered better than others. For me its as much about the memories associated with seeing those old classic's for the first time as it is the content and story.

I guess we lived in simpler times back then.......

An absolute classic. I am so glad i have it on dvd. I only have a dvd played and dvds of my classic war movies. Its a bit hard to stream them, most services don’t cater to military buffs

Another wee classic.......

G’Day Toddy,
Now it’s not often I would or could disagree with your choice of war movie but ‘Too Late The Hero’ is the one notable exception…

Before I actually saw this movie back in 1970 I was so looking forward to seeing it…It had a great cast …a terrific Director… and what sounded like a pretty good plot.

So on the first day it was on release in Glasgow myself and a pal dodged out of Art School and went to the afternoon. Matinee…Gawd’s truth what a disappointment…the script was terrible…the casting awful…and the whole premise unbelievable PLUS why was a Yank officer wearing a ‘Tam O’ Shanter’..?
After about half the movie we actually both got up and walked out…Well, we opined, that was the waste of a couple of quid!

Over the years I’ve suffered through some pretty bad ‘War Movies’ but never actually walked out of one…until ‘Too Late The Hero’…
Sorry mate but just a little memory…
All the best,
Andy.

Seeing Richard Attenborough as Frenchie reminded me of Guns At Batasi. Do not be put off by the terrible trailer this is a tour de force by Attenborough as RSM Lauderdale. In interviews he said it was Steve McQuuen who recommended him for the Sand Pebbles after they became friends on the Great Escape.

RSM Lauderdale - a more quintessential RSM doesn't exist anywhere.

Andy mate I'm with you. I posted the clip knowing full well I'd get a reaction of sorts. ^&grin A bit naughty of me being a cheeky Kiwi. :wink2:

I too was disappointed as was my younger brother. Given the cast thought it would be a ripper......sadly no, enough said. :salute::

'Battle of Britain' is one of my favourite's as is 'Where Eagles Dare' having seen both on the big screen as youngsters growing up in the 70's.

This ones for you Andy and all those who enjoy a cold one on a hot day.......enjoy.

G’DAY Toddy,
Many thanks for your ‘flick-picks’…Your latest 3 are some of the best!

’Guns at Batasi’…I remember seeing and enjoying while still at school…Richard Attenborough as the R.S.M. was terrific, backed up by a number of very fine British character actors who often appeared in ‘military’ roles.

’Battle of Britain’…another personal favourite and responsible for the beginning of the ‘Warbird’ movement in the U.K. to preserve classic WW2 aircraft in flying condition.

I remember seeing many photos in the British newspapers at the time of filming when they had a lineup of 3x Hurricanes and about a dozen assorted Spitfires all painted up in typical 1940 RAF camouflage. The film makers were doubly lucky to get 36 Spanish-built Casa 211’s to imitate Henkel 111’s and almost 30 Spanish ‘Buchons’ to play Me 109’s…No CGI in those days!

Finally, one of the all-time greatest British WW2 films ‘Ice Cold In Alex’…starring John Mills, Harry Andrews and Anthony Quayle and a pretty sexy Sylvia Sims plus an Austin K2 Ambulance. Over the years I’ve seen this movie several times and enjoyed it more and more…
A few years back this film inspired me and K&C to produce our own Austin ‘Katy’…4 x variations in fact…One RAF…Two for the British Army in the European Campaign and…One for the Desert, very much in tribute to ‘Ice Cold In Alex’.
It’s still one of my favourite K&C fighting vehicles…

All the best,
Andy.

Hi Andy, my question got lost in the movie reviews haha.
Will you release these guys in white? especially any new figures.
Is the sailor firing the pistol a new sculpt? I have the original white suited guys and love them. But dont recall the pistoleer.
another question to all..... are US sailors like other nations in the sense they wear white in summer and blue in winter? Or is there more to it? Would there be a situation where a few of the sailors might wear blue and others white? I will get the standing and kneeling firing, wondering how accurate it would be to mix them?..... ie blue and white uniforms.
Jas
