“D.Day minus one” (1 Viewer)

Understood Guy. Didn't realize you made dios for customers. Do you have a website?

Hi Guys and...Guy,

You are correct Guy, the “Tinplate” vehicles do not have plastic windows – This is a new factory we are working with and their models come like this.

A very big plus however is that these models are “TOUGH” and very hard wearing. Quite a few years back when we produced our last open-topped “Deuce and a Halfs” the “ribs” on the back were pretty delicate and had to be handled with extreme care.

This particular factory had never worked in this size before but I am very pleased with the results so far...And yes, we’ve done the “Opel Blitz” as well...photos on Friday!

Best wishes & Happy Collecting!

Great idea - tin plate vehicles! I really like both trucks!

Jazzeum, I am a TS collector but a modeller and dio maker in the first place . All TSs I buy will finally end up in a dio. I am fortunate to have an international customer base , Belgian,British, French and German collectors buy my dios . They would never accept a truck without a wind-screen or without windows in a dio. This is the only reason I will not buy them.
guy:smile2:

The windscreen wipers draw your eye straight to the openings. The wipers were the first detail that I noticed on the truck. However, it's a toy truck, right? Manufacturers used to make toy vehicles without windows all the time. Perhaps, we're going retro here. Is this the toy truck look of old? :)

Without the driver it can be only used in a parking situation if you make a dio.So the price shouldn' t be big.

Wayne if the cabin has no floor then it is possible to put the wind-screen and the windows in . But you explain to me , if the cabin has a floor ,how will you put the last window in ????? When two windows are in place then the third one has to go in..... How ????? windows have to be fixed from inside the cabin!!!!!!!
guy:)

If the body and frame are held together by screws and not rivets, then one could carefully take apart, apply windows and reassemble. I know some will say for the price, we should not have to, but do we have a price yet? Michael

That's my thinking also, particularly if they are to have a reasonable possibility of remaining in place.

On the other hand, I'd once again suggest that these aren't really intended to be perfectly rendered scale models. I buy facades for my model airplanes. Aren't these vehicle replicas facades, of a sort, for the figures that KC manufactures?

BTW, if we want to discuss a windscreen mod for KC's CCKW, perhaps the exchange of thoughts should take place on one of the other forums. The technical aspects of the work might be a little too much "inside baseball" for many collectors.

Think about the good all " KC Glory Years ", most collectors were completely happy with solid white painted in windows, with a streak or 2 etched in for effect...:p Michael

Have we reached a crossed road with K&C with tin trucks and plastic tanks and is this the way toy soldier collecting is heading. Chris.:salute::

{eek3}{eek3}I was not.....a happy camper....solid blocks of polysomething.....^&grin^&grin

Hi Guys, hi Simmo,

Hardly a “Crossroads”...just looking at trying different materials, different factories and different approaches...Nothing wrong in being open to new (and sometimes not-so-new) suggestions and ideas.

Just my opinion of course.

Best wishes and happy collecting!

I guess I am in the minority, but I don't really pay much attention to what my toy soldiers are made of. If I like them then so be it. When my friends and family see my collection they might ask what they are made of but beyond that I never ever give it a thought.

To each their own but polystone, tinplate or strange unknown meteoric material, it is all the same to me so long as I like it.

That comment sounds awfully appealing. Rather than constantly hatin' on innovation, perhaps we should be more open minded towards the concept.:) When I first read that the KC "CCKW" was made out of metal, I was very intrigued. Fine Art Models pieces are metal and they are fantastic. I've got a 1/32 biplane that's made out of brass, and the workmanship is really something to behold. Of course, they're not cheap either!

Hi Andy and K&C Team,

Fully agree with you! Personally, being an old school guy .... cold metal/lead appeals more to me than any other material....so that counts tonnes when I decide over if I am adding a specific set to my collection and in special when we talk artillery and vehicles:eek: Soldiers are a non negotiable they need to be lead!
Other materials to artillery/vehicles do not real appeal much to me! With a few exceptions ......
At the same time that I consider your Diorama prop buildings and structures "a class on its own" as the most detailed strucutres we can find in the market and have learnt to expect them to be made out of polystone, with all those nice and heavily details walls and accessories, plastic or foam buildings for me are no longer an appeal...:rolleyes2:
Being then this the rationale that leads me to being very happy that you are venturing into metal for vehicles....for when I think of artillery and vehicles ..... I would expect them to be made of high quality metal/brass.....

Cheers
