Hi Guys,
Somewhere in the Libyan Desert a small SAS / Long Range Desert Group patrol is about to go off on a ‘Raiding Party’ against some German and Italian airfields.
Well that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
As you can see we’ve “mixed and matched” various figures, vehicles and accessories from a varied collection of series into an interesting little scenario ... Hope you like it,
Andy

Wow that's a multitude, I hope they have plenty of loaves and fishes on hand.

Something like I would do, except I call it 'artistic license', whatever it looks good to me. Robin.

You stole my thunder Andy, I was going to do a LRDG scene soon with my Desert Village!!!! :wink2:^&grin Mind you I can never match all your structures!!!

Very nice mate, I love it!

Tom

Hi Andy,
Now that you have seen how complicated our lives are due to the lack of corner towers and battle walls in "L" format when trying to build a " desert village series fortification" ......could you come up with some of them for the series...??
The Roman options are fine, but are Roman......they cannot be used in any other period series with the same flexibility as the desert village series walls......For the scenario you have built they have come out to a nice match...but the same would not be as easly reproduced in a different scenario..as well as no place did Roman Walls and fortifications could be kept as the ones you have used given that they are from the early Roman period and would not have survived into Medieval Europe or even Middle East scenarios without the appropriate Military changes that are better found on the desert village series.....:salute:::salute::
I give you a thumbs up for the initiative and most likely those that collect Roman and other periods will see here a limited SAS Raid in Lybia and Syria, some limited ( very limited ) WW1 ideas given that the fortifications that were there standing during the war were all more recent Crusader or Saracen ..... good example is Jerusalem... options but not more than that.....
Cheers
Luiz

Very nice Andy - those new Roman wall pieces look great as pictured (although you had me at LRDG). Love seeing these types of dioramas; great picture as well.

Keep them coming!

Ahhh... Imagining Paddy, David, Jack, Jock, Eoin, Popski and the other lads going out to do a "bash up" on a Jerry airfield or the Italians on the Via Balbia...

Good some more pieces for expansion^&grin, Robin.

The battlements are too short for the figures. FL walls and towers are a better size for Medieval and Roman figures IMO.

Are you referring to the Desert Wall DIO piece as shown in Robin's DIO or the pending walls for the Roman fort in the K&C DIO

Both; the Merlons of the battlements must be as high or higher than the heads of the figures. Google Melon and select images, you will see the correct size relationship.

Great stuff Andy, love seeing some creative licence being used and a wonderful combo of vehicles, figures and buildings on display in one setting!

Hey I did that and found this...................:wink2:

Nice Melon; try Merlon or Crenel or Battlement or Parapet. Sorry for the typo!

While maybe higher merlons are proper for true wall design, for toy soldiers I actually like the shorter ones so you can see the figures. No point in spending $80 for a figure for him to be hidden

Reminds me of my Marx Castle when I was about 8 years old. The battlements came up to the Knights knees; very realistic! I agree that you could see the figures really well! Thus the Toy in Toy Soldiers. Remember the bags of toy soldiers with the tanks that were half the size of the figures, ah the good old days, 10 cent toys and worth every penny.

Nail hit on head. Thanks Zach. I agree. I like the fort, like all of the buildings. What is the purpose if you can't see what you displayed? I used to always wonder and dislike some of the diorama pieces over the years which were enclosed interiors? My thought is why spend $$$$ to populate an area I could never see in my displays, but the tagline - "detailed Interior", never did understand that. I much prefer less detail to actually being able to enjoy the display. For me the background pieces are just that, I am more interested in seeing what I spent my moolah on.
