2013 Ashes (1 Viewer)

My god you call US whinging! ^&grin Even your coach has been blubbing like a schoolgirl who has dropped her ice cream and wet her pants at the same time!:wink2:You guys are great, you lost the Ashes , we won more more games than you did, and you just can't deal ^&grin:salute:: I thought Aussies were good sports??? :wink2: As for Joe Root I think I'm right in saying he has performed better than the person that attacked him out of the blue in a pub before the Ashes? Some people can't be intimidated by violence, he has skill and talent and has shown a class that his assailant can only dream of. Come on guys show a bit of class and sportsmanship, you got beaten and we won, time to step up and take it on the chin in good faith.:salute::^&grin

If only they'd schedule an earlier start to the Ashes it might not have been so bad. July was scorching here and June wasn't too bad either. I'm sure my Australian friends are not really blaming the weather though, I know it must hurt to lose to us but at the end of the day it is still only a game!:smile2:

Now Rob mate you know that's tradition for Aussies to never admit that the p-ms (not allowed to say that word on TF:rolleyes2:) are ever a better side, it is always the fault of the weather, the umpires or the food but never ever that we were beaten by a better side! that's just not on! it's the Ashes :wink2: your post is in that tradition mate, keep gloating...well done keep the tradition going.:salute::
Wayne.

^&grin:wink2:

Youre a good sport Wayne. I have no illusions as to how hard it will be to hold onto them down under come the Winter, so am just enjoying winning them again. I'm also well aware you guys had some terrible decisions go against you, but this sport will do that to you. Whoever wins them the Ashes is the best contest in sport. (Am not that big on footballl)

All the best Wayne

Well said that man!:salute:: Different ball game in Australia later this year with much harder wickets, should be another great contest though. If Joe Root needs a helmet Stuart Broad might need armour plating and a very thick skin! Did you see Ian Chappell is having a go at Leamann now ?

No comment mate its up to the individual to walk or not,that's why i admire Adam Gilchrist one of the fairest men to play the game.

Well a damp squib draw to end the Ashes, what a shame as this game could have been another great one. So 3-0 in the end guys. Well played England and well played Australia. We move above India into second place now with South Africa top.

Rob

If rain thwarted Aus before today, bad light certainly thwarted England today. We needed just 21 from 24 to win 4-0. ! Oh well, thats how it goes. But Jonathan Agnew has got the right hump!!;

Jonathan Agnew BBC cricket correspondent

"This was always going to happen. Don't blame the umpires or the players... blame the ICC. It's an absolute disgrace. An absolute shambles. The final day of the Ashes has ended in a farce. Let's hope that finally those people in Dubai who run the game realise what a mess this is. It's NOT the umpires' fault."

Here are some stats;

Leading series run-scorers

562 Ian Bell (Eng) - average 62.44

418 Shane Watson (Aus) - average 41.80

388 Kevin Pietersen (Eng) - average 38.80

381 Michael Clarke (Aus) - average 47.62

367 Chris Rogers (Aus) - average 40.77

Leading series wicket-takers

26 Graeme Swann (Eng) - average 29.03

24 Ryan Harris (Aus) - average 19.58

22 Stuart Broad (Eng) - average 27.45

22 James Anderson (Eng) - average 29.59

17 Peter Siddle (Aus) - average 31.58

Well England got what they deserved when time/light? ran out. A team that played go slow when it suited them really didn't deserve to win this game. Then there was the matter of the declarations..... This said, England were deserved winners of the series. They didn't make a lot of friends in doing it though. I suspect the return series will be a less than uplifting experience....

Sounds like the English weather helped Australia avoid a 4 nil defeat.
It would have been a really exciting ending if the light had not failed.

NO the weather ruined a possible 2 all draw............................:wink2:

Well if the last game hadn't lost so much time, Australia would have set a somewhat nastier chase. It's fascinating how that might've gone, given this game saw the most runs ever scored on a last day pitch (in England at least if I'm rembering Sporting Life correctly).

Slowing things down or speeding them up as required is part of the game and requires great skill. If a batting side is slowing it down there is a solution which previous great aussie teams would have adopted. Bowl them out

Series thoughts.

A deserved and expected England win. Everyone is saying it, England aren't quite as good as the scoreline says, or Australia as bad. I'm not sure what the correct scoreline should be. Two wins to Australia seems a touch much, one a touch short. The series followed the predictions that saw Australia's bowlers keeping England in check, but Australia struggle for enough runs. Oddly Australia had more men score hundreds, more men average over 40 (thanks Rob!) and led on the first innings 3 if not 4 times! I think it was Allan Border who wrote that Australia won more sessions/hours but when it had a bad one, it cost the game. Sporting Life was a bit more complimentary of England and made some good points. At the end winning the series, even if doing it a bit 'ugly' was what mattered. My personal disappointment stems from the raised expectations from that first test. Agar was simply magic and the close, almost win, against the overall run of play, fed false hope. Lords blew all the buzz away. Each game thereafter disappointed in a different way. I guess it was not being competitive that made it tough to bear. The boot is well and truly on the other foot now!

I see Ian Chappell being critical of Australian grade cricket. It was always a strength, in that it funnelled the best players straight to First Class Cricket. He says the lengthening of club cricket hours has forced many older players out and the average First grade age is in the low 20s. If so, I see this is a problem. Boys need to play against men to develop properly. This aside I thought Cricket Australia got it right by programming in the A tour. It gave several players a good lead in to the tour. There still should've been more first-class cricket (what good was that two-day game!) but I guess other commitments meant the window was only 'so' wide. Anyway, hopefully the Australians will settle down, find a good number six, a reliable third seamer and an opening combo for the upcoming summer.

My thoughts are look further that the eastern seaboard for players.......................:mad:
