2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

The Giants seem to have hit a bit of a stride as they have now won four in a row. I am not about to put a deposit on my playoff tickets but this year even a small winning streak calls for a celebration.

Apparently, the O's bullpen has been infected by the Nats bullpen. A particularly ugly game in Detroit tonight as the O's pen twice squandered 3-run leads, the second time coming in the 12th inning. O's scored 3 in the top of the 12th and promptly gave it all back. I really thought the O's could cover the loss of Britton but that isn't proving to be the case at all. Brach is not handling closing very well and the whole bullpen is in flux, as well. Please come back, Mr. Britton! The game goes to the 13th. Jeesh. -- Al

A brutal 5 1/2 hour win for the O's, but it is a 'W'. Davis' second Hr of the game, a 2-run shot, in the 13th, gives the O's a 13-11 win. Yea. Now to bed. -- Al

Gut check win.....bed???...it's only 9:38 pm..;)

The struggles continue: 6 and counting. My son and I are going to see the Angels play the Mets at Citifield this Friday and Sunday; he doesn't get to see them often and he hates going to Yankee Stadium as the Angels always seem to lose when we go there and he thinks Yankee fans razz him for wearing Angels gear. A couple of weeks ago I told him the Mets would sweep. Yesterday I told him there might be a sweep but the Halos might be doing it {eek3}

O's were ahead 7-1 in 4th inning I think. :rolleyes2: Chris

You are right, Chris, it was a 7-1 lead, but it was the 3rd. Tigers scored 3 in the bottom of the 3rd to make it 7-4. I misread the box score. That was Miley's lead. The bullpen melted down later on. They REALLY miss Britton. -- Al

And the beat goes on. Out of the cellar and climbing, bit by bit. Blach and the bullpen throttled the Dodgers again.^&cool -- Al

This, after losing a 6-1 lead the game prior. Not looking good for the O's with this kind of pitching. Chris

Yeah, and it's both the starters and relievers. Tillman and Bundy can't do it alone. Miley has to go deeper and Jimenez and Gausman have to get their act together. I also am concerned about O'Day and Brach. Their stats aren't awful but they are giving up too many runs, and they are the bullpen aces. Good thing the team is so scrappy and won't quit. -- Al

This pitching disaster seemed to really start in that 3rd game with the Nats early last week, O's up 5-1 or something like that going into the last few innings and couldn't hold the lead and lost to the Nats...then a train wreck in KC esp. the last game up 5-0 after the 4th and losing 9-8, then last night trying to blow 2 huge leads?? yea, O's won but it should have never gone down like that to start with. don't no at this point, the bats are scoring more runs but now the pitching is struggling, not sure what mountain I have to climb and scream from to Bud to allow Tyler Wilson a fair shake???^&confuse either way, Britton isn't coming back anytime soon, so someone on that staff has to be a better go to guy in the 8-9th innings or a promising season might derail before the break.

Saw on ESPN that O's 1st baseman Davis' 2 go-ahead HR's in extra innings last night is only the second time that has been accomplished since 1961. The other time was in 2013 when Matt Adams did it for the Cards. -- Al

I actually got to watch today's Giant's game while I was traveling to Texas. It made the flight go by very quickly. No shame in having a winning streak come to an end at the hands of Kershaw. He is probably the best in the game right now.

I heard them mention that in last night's game/loss.

They also had a list showing how many pitchers the O's have called up and sent back down to the minors this yr. Don't remember the number, but it was very high. Chris

Chris, I long ago stopped trying to keep up with the revolving door called the O's roster. They make so many moves, everyday it seems, that I can't keep up with who is in the big leagues at any given time. I just turn on the game, read the line-up, shrug at the unknown names, and watch. To make it in the O's organization, a hopeful has to have a bunch of options so that he can be moved up and down, as needed. No options, no job, as far as the O's are concerned. Sure makes life interesting for these players. -- Al

I am not sure which is worse, the "back and forth" of the O's or the "sticking with them no matter what" of the Giants.

O's are having a tough stretch of 1-run games. 7 of the last 8 games they have played have been 1-run decisions and the O's are only 2-6 in them. Even so, the O's are 8-7 in 1-run games for the season. Just a rough stretch. -- Al

Al:

I am finally getting caught up on baseball after being busy this last week.

The O's are positioning themselves well in the most difficult division in baseball. They have hung with the Yankees and remain just 2 games back. My bet is that the AL East will remain up for grabs for most of the season. All Baltimore has to do is weather the storm and they have just as much of a shot as anyone. It is worth noting that the Sox will become more of a threat once (if) Price returns.

And by the way, I am pretty sure one of those Davis homers from earlier in the week still has not landed.

Best,
Jason

It looks as though the bullpen might not be the only issue the Nats are struggling with. Ever since Adam Eaton went down in the first game of the Mets series, the Nats have been a very average team. They are 5-6 since Eaton's injury, and if you throw out the anomaly of the 23-5 win over the Mets in game 3 of that series, the Nats have been outscored 40-42 in the other 10 games. Eaton was a major part of the offense and the spark plug to the team, in general. Add to this slump the very sloppy baserunning of the Nats in 3 recent games, and one can only conclude that there could be an attitude adjustment needed. Baker needs to light a fire under this team. Wake up boys, there's still alot of ball to play and no one is going to concede the division title based on 32 games. -- Al
Nats continue to scuffle since losing Eaton. After today's ugly loss to the Pirates, the Nats are only 9-9 since losing Eaton and they continue to be outscored in overall total, (once again throwing out the 23-5 game). Don't know what the answer is. -- Al

I am looking forward to this weekend's Giants and Cardinals series. It will be a good way to measure if the Giants recent success was legitimate or just a fluke.
