2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (2 Viewers)

True Jason but teams make their own breaks and the Giants made theirs. Games like this can be a springboard. Maybe it will get the Giants going in the right direction.

I sure hope so. Getting some runs off of one of the best closers has to be a confidence boost no matter what the circumstances are.

I'd like to see the Giants get going but they need some good starts from Samardzija, Moore, and Cain to help Cueto. If the starting pitching doesn't step up, it will be a tough go. -- Al

Baseball, Jeez, what can you say? Paybacks are a you know what. After watching the Mets and the O's/Nats game today, I sure am sobered to realize that the Nats aren't the only ones with bullpen issues. Those last 3 outs are VERY difficult. One thing for sure, the O's are missing Britton. Brach is having trouble as closer. It just ain't easy. -- Al

Quite a line by Brach; one third of an inning, 3 runs on 4 hits, looks like he had two pitches tonight, balls and home runs.

You pull some games out of your backside, you blow some games too, that's life in MLB, the LET'S GO O'S!! blew a 6-2 lead, 6-4 going into the bottom of the ninth, only to lose 7-6.

I'm sure they'll pull off a blockbuster of at trade at the trading deadline to shore up that dumpster fire of a bullpen, no worries LET'S GO O'S!! fans.....................

No doubt the O's are going to have some problems replacing Britton, in the past few years when the Orioles would go into the 8th with more then a 1 run lead it was almost automatic that it was going to be a win, now it's back to hoping they can hold a lead, I had basically started channel surfing last night when the 8th came around and the O's were up 6-2, my mistake ..oh well, hopefully Bundy can pitch another good game today and close out this series with a win, let's go O's!!!!!!!!!!!!...just for George ^&grin

It's raining in the DC area, and it is supposed to do so all day. May not get the game in. We shall see. Bullpens are such a delicate balance. One weak link can throw the whole mixture off. If the Nats had their bullpen of a couple of years ago, with guys like Clippard and Storen, I'd feel a lot better. Or even last year's bullpen, as unsettled as that was, is much preferred to this year's disaster. Hope the O's can work it out because Britton is out for a while and they can't afford 2 months of uncertainty in the pen. -- Al

If you think things can't get worse, well they can. Familia has a clot in his arm and may need surgery. The baseball gods are sending the Mets a message, courtesy of Brooklyn: wait until next year!

Good grief! Just how many injuries can the Mets suffer? Their bad luck in this category the last 2 seasons is just unbelievable. One wonders if the cause might be in the training and treatment regimens. -- Al

Fans have questioned the medical staff but I think it's just bad luck. Familia is seeing a Dr in St Louis in a day or so.

I will give the Mets some credit. Their team has been decimated by injuries and yet they are still in second place, one game below .500. The Giants lose one starting pitcher and they are 10 games out of first and 11 games below .500.

O's -Nats postponed due to weather. So O's win another series. ^&grin at least for now. :wink2:
Britton out 45-60 days. {eek3} Chris

The Giants dive continues. They are now 1-6 in their last 7 games with their lone victory being a win over a wounded Mets team and a closer with a serious injury.

Familia had surgery today. He will be out for "several months." That probably means the season; Dillon Gee had similar surgery a couple of years ago and he was out for the remainder of the season.

Let's see: they've lost their best hitter, best starting pitcher and best reliever. They are also missing two other starting pitchers. Maybe they can hover around 500 until September. If so, they might have a shot at a WC. However, I wouldn't expect that to happen.

I was watching some of the moron ESPN baseball experts discuss the Mets injury situation. They made the point that the Mets seem to play better each time they suffer an injury to a key player. They then joked that if deGrom was to get injured that they would probably win the WS. Jolly jokesters. Idiots. Would like to see Harvey straighten out and be a help instead of a distraction. The Mets will find a way to hang in. If nothing else they have proved they can roll with the punches and stay competitive. -- Al

You have to wonder what the Mets would be like if they were healthy? On paper they would have to be considered a World Series contender. Now, with all of their injuries even a Wild Card would be impressive.

The Nats have tied up Harper for 2018, his final arbitration eligible year, for a tidy $21.265 million, thus freeing both sides from off-season drama. He becomes free-agent eligible for 2019. -- Al

To cap his day, Harper hit a walk-off Hr against the Phillies tonight. I say give that man a raise.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

Last two days they've looked poor. You have to wonder if they continue to slide whether they will be sellers at the trading deadline.

Brad, what's your take on Harvey's future with the Mets? Has he become too much of a club house distraction for the Mets to stick with him, or is his continued ineffectivesness going to be the key? He is only 28, so has plenty of potential/time to regain his 2015 form, unless the whole problem stems from the 'overuse' in 2015. Is he still just not quite recovered from the surgery last year, or is it something else? I like him and would love to see him recover himself. -- Al

Al,

He will leave at the end of 2018; he and the Mets don't get along and he's become too much of a distraction. If they could trade him for decent value at the end of the season, they probably would but a lot of teams don't want to touch him. He likes the idea of being a personality rather than a pitcher when it should be vice versa. I also don't think he likes being second fiddle behind Syndergaard and de Grom. He's had two major surgeries and that may have sapped some of his talent.

So much for the vaunted pitching staff. They had one good year, 2015, but haven't been able to produce that much since then. Things can and do change quickly in sport.
