I've always liked Harvey's mound demeanor and his ability. Sounds like he may have lost something because of the physical problems but it really seems he needs a new start somewhere else. That happens a lot. Maybe best for both sides at this point just to part ways. I can't get the Arrieta move to Chicago out of my head as a perfect example of the 'new surroundings' theory.Al,
He will leave at the end of 2018; he and the Mets don't get along and he's become too much of a distraction. If they could trade him for decent value at the end of the season, they probably would but a lot of teams don't want to touch him. He likes the idea of being a personality rather than a pitcher when it should be vice versa. I also don't think he likes being second fiddle behind Syndergaard and de Grom. He's had two major surgeries and that may have sapped some of his talent.
So much for the vaunted pitching staff. They had one good year, 2015, but haven't been able to produce that much since then. Things can and do change quickly in sport.
As any baseball fan knows, pitching staffs are the most delicate of structures and any injury or a simple 'down year' can upset even the best staff. Thor will be back and deGrom will continue to produce. Someone else will step in to take up the slack, as always. -- Al
