2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

Glad to see the O's get the W last night as it seems my ol buddy Ubado is on the hill tonight  against none other then M. Scherzer who seems to always pitch well in Camden Yards, hope the Reds can cool off the Yanks tonight so the O's don't lose ground because the way the Nats can possibly score against Ubado it may get ugly real quick real fast.
The pitching edge is with the Nats but Mad Max does give up gopher balls and the O's excel in hitting those, so we shall see. As Sammy says, which uBADo will show up? -- Al

For the second night in a row, the O's are getting a terrific game from a struggling starter. Had you told me uBADo was going to allow only 2 hits through 6 innings AND walk only 1 man (fewer than Scherzer!), I would have said 'No Way', but that if it was true, the O's should be winning. Alas, it is only a 1-1 tie as Scherzer didn't allow a hit until a 1-out Hr in the 6th, tying the game. 3 more innings to decide who will win this beauty of a pitching duel and with bullpens involved, advantage O's.:wink2: -- Al

Buck should have known better in the 8th...but once again ol ubado pulls a rabbit out of his hat to surprise everyone!!!! which means the next 3-4 games he gets shelled in the 1st or 2nd innings, let's go Reds!!!!

Yep. To paraphrase a book we all know and love, Buck tried to go an inning too far. At the very least, Jimenez should have come out after the 2nd hit in the 8th. This one's on Buck. Jimenez really came through. O's got the Scherzer gopher balls but they were solos. Still have a chance in the 9th. -- Al

Good call Al, our boys aren't dead yet. :)

Advantage O's. I said earlier (all season, in fact) that the Nats bullpen is terrible and so it proves the point again. Time for the Nats to start firing some pitchers and replace them with some Little Leaguers. -- Al

I just watched the last half inning and what the heck is Adam Jones thinking; he's basically leaving it up to the next guy. I thought the Nats got screwed on the call at 2nd. I guess those two moves cancelled each other out.

Tough game to lose but I guess the silver lining is that they didn't exhaust the pen. I heard Murphy was tossed. Was it for arguing balls and strikes? I know that as a Met he was always discussing pitches with umpires and it was something that tended to irritate them.

The game was essentially the O's once they got into the Nats bullpen. The Nats bullpen is directly responsible for half the Nats losses and has converted only 10 of 15 save opportunities. Doesn't matter how good the hitting is if the bullpen continues to give games away once the starter leaves. Rizzo needs to get off his hands and start dealing for pen help before this season gets much further along. The Nats only have 1 or 2 men in the pen who can be depended on and that just won't cut it. It's wishful thinking to think these blown games won't come back to bite them in the butt. -- Al

Not to keep beating the negative drum, but since last Friday San Francisco has been outscored 41-9. That sounds like a 49er's score from last year.

:(

Baseball is a funny game: With 20% of the season now having been played, I need the numbers experts to explain to me how the team picked to finish last in the AL East, the O's, are proud owners of the best record in baseball. Not only do they have the best record but they have done it without their staff ace, (Tillman), without the best closer in MLB, (Britton), and without their big bats (Jones, Davis, Trumbo, and Machado) having been anywhere near as effective as they have been in the past. Perhaps this team simply is much better than anyone cares to admit. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? -- Al

Well, they got one today that Flores gift wrapped for them.

I'll toss out my two cents worth, as you said Al only 20% season has been played so my post is only a reflection of the that time, with that being said this Orioles team reminds me of the 2015 Orioles AL East champion team, with wins coming ugly, low scoring, high scoring at the right time, but a win is a win and the scoreboard doesn't make a bit of difference in run scoring ratio as the O's have the 7th best ratio but the best record in baseball, only a matter of time Trumbo, Davis, Jones get hot as Machado is on a roll and if we could ever get Britton and all the pitchers to stay healthy and play together one never knows how good this team could be.

It looks as though the bullpen might not be the only issue the Nats are struggling with. Ever since Adam Eaton went down in the first game of the Mets series, the Nats have been a very average team. They are 5-6 since Eaton's injury, and if you throw out the anomaly of the 23-5 win over the Mets in game 3 of that series, the Nats have been outscored 40-42 in the other 10 games. Eaton was a major part of the offense and the spark plug to the team, in general. Add to this slump the very sloppy baserunning of the Nats in 3 recent games, and one can only conclude that there could be an attitude adjustment needed. Baker needs to light a fire under this team. Wake up boys, there's still alot of ball to play and no one is going to concede the division title based on 32 games. -- Al

True Jason but teams make their own breaks and the Giants made theirs. Games like this can be a springboard. Maybe it will get the Giants going in the right direction.
