2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

It's must be nice to have your plate full with professional sports. In Kentucky, we can only "watch from afar." :rolleyes2: Chris

Yeah, but you've got the Wildcats basketball program; up here, college sports are a total wasteland.........................

I see that the Yankees beat the Cubs again. Taking nothing away from the Yankees, who have the best record in the AL and second best in MLB (after the Nats), this doesn't seem -- so far -- the same Cubs team as last year, as they are barely above .500. Having had their (and their fans') thirst sated, they may not be as motivated as last year. We are only a month into the season so it's hard to say how things will ultimately turn out.

Nats 3rd baseman Anthony Redon had a tremendous 6 game week, ending yesterday. Started the week with 0 Hrs and 5 RBI's on the season and had been the weak point in the Nats offense. Starting with the Mets game last Sunday, when he led the Nats to a 23-5 win with 3 Hrs and 10 RBI's, Rendon ended the week hitting a total of 5 Hrs with 17 RBIs on 12 for 23 batting. Not a bad week. The Nats offense is doing well, despite the loss of Eaton and the day to day status of Harper. The team is hitting .288 with a .363 OBP. I wonder how long they can keep this production up? They have to cool off eventually. -- Al

Well, Harvey has been suspended for three games, effective as of yesterday. It's not clear what he did but apparently he's been a bit of a behavioral problem.

Can you imagine the moaning you'd be hearing from Cubs fans if the Indians didn't blow that World Series last year? That Cubs team last year was a machine, imagine the crying you'd be hearing if that stacked team hadn't won the WS and this team came out of the gate like they have so far?

Still can't believe the Indians blew that series last year, what an epic choke job that was...........................................I knew they were done when they lost game 6; once momentum starts going the other way in sports, you're doomed, just ask the 2004 MFY's, the Golden State Warriors last year or the Falcons this year....................

Great to see Tillman got off to a solid win today, now comes the Beltway series that's always interesting as the O's and Nats play 4, 2 games in Baltimore and 2 in DC, going to be a tough series with the way the Nats have played so far.

Sammy, if the O's can hold the game close and wait until the Nats go to their bullpen, the O's will have an excellent shot at winning. The Nats bullpen is really awful. They blew another game today, taking over a game with a 5-2 lead and needing 6 outs, gave up a game tying 3-run Hr in the 8th, and then lost it in the 10th. Of the Nats 10 losses this season, the bullpen is directly responsible for 5 and gave up runs in 2 others that buried the Nats. With even an average bullpen it is possible the Nats could be a team with as few as 5 losses by now. I know that is useless speculation, but this bullpen is really poor.
Great to see Tillman get over the 1st inning jitters and do such a fine job. With him back in the mix, and 'Cy' Bundy on a roll, the O's aren't looking too shabby. Should be a good series. -- Al

Sometimes the line between winning and losing, glory and ignominy is razor thin.

Just a quick reminder...the Brewers are doing nothing.

Well, not exactly nothing, they signed Eric Thames, a 30 year old who hasn't played in the Majors since 2012 and an AMAZING average over his three big league seasons of .250. But...he was a MAN in Korea last year...

Now...back to the conversation from clubs that actually pretend they are trying to win...

I just pulled up this gem from last winter...Thames just hit his 12th home run last night. We're at .500 so far with a young club. There is hope!!

O's off to a hot start tonight. Nice to see a standing O for Weiters. Chris

Good win by the O's but the 9th only proved that they need Britton back and healthy. If not for the Little League base running antics by the Nats, it could be a 1-run game still under way. Count the blessings. --Al

So who were you rooting for tonight?
I try not to play favorites when they play each other. I root for the O's as the home team in Baltimore and for the Nats when they play in DC. That way I break even.:wink2: -- Al

The Giants are now 3-7 in their last 10 games and 9.5 games out of first. I was hoping they would win last against a Mets team that has been battered by injuries. That didn't happen.

There is still a long way to go, but the losses are mounting.

Funny, but that's the same way we see it too: we can get some wins against the Giants. Their schedule, other than the Dbacks, doesn't look too tough, so they need to pile up some wins against these teams.

Although the starting pitching has taken a hit, the offense has been strong as of late, even without Céspedes and the Mets have won their last three series. The bullpen has stabilized a bit. They will just have to try keep their heads up above water until Syndergaard, Matz and Lugo can get back.

Glad to see the O's get the W last night as it seems my ol buddy Ubado is on the hill tonight  against none other then M. Scherzer who seems to always pitch well in Camden Yards, hope the Reds can cool off the Yanks tonight so the O's don't lose ground because the way the Nats can possibly score against Ubado it may get ugly real quick real fast.

Beginning to wonder what is wrong with Jered Weaver out in SD. He could be hurt or maybe he's just having a bad year or maybe he's about finished as an effective pitcher. He's 0-4 with a 6.81 ERA on the year. Worse yet, over his last 3 starts he has lasted a total of 12.2 innings, giving up 22 hits, 17 earned runs, and 7 Hrs. The Hrs yielded stat is really telling as he has given up a total of 14 in only 35.2 innings and has yielded Hrs in every one of his 7 starts, and multiple Hrs in all but one start. These are all signs of a pitcher in deep trouble. -- Al
