2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

The Giants lost to the Dodgers last night despite the fact that the Giants got 12 hits and drove in 5 runs. Which have been great except for the Dodgers got 11 hits but somehow managed to score 13 runs.

Looks like the O's are going down in this one. BUT they got a triple play in the 8th. :salute:: More base running shenanigans by the Sox. Chris

I didn't know the infield fly rule can be called on a pop up that lands 20 feet beyond the infield in left field, thus causing mass confusion on the basepaths, but hey, you learn something new everyday...................:rolleyes2:

Sale is unreal, talk about a guy who comes as advertised, if it weren't for him, the Red Sox would be in last place.......................

I didn't see the play but I believe it's the umpire's discretion. Wasn't there a huge controversy about the rule a few years ago in a playoff game between the Cardinals and the Braves?

Bundy hits a Sox player Mon.nite Sale tosses behind the knees of Machado last night...it's not a matter of a full blown bench clearing brawl but when. getting a little old on both sides.

George, infield fly rule wasn't called. Runners didn't advance and we're forc
ed out. Sorry if I'm not reading your post correctly. Chris

I remember that game and that play, it was in 2011 or 2012. The Braves fans were so upset with the call that they started to throw things onto field.

O's won against the White Sox last night but there was bad news prior to the game when Britton experienced more pain in his arm and had to have an MRI. Baltimore holding it's breath on the next move. As if that weren't enough, O's starting pitcher Wade Miley was literally knocked out of the game in the 1st inning when he was hit by 2 consecutive line drives off 2 consecutive batters. He has a bruised wrist but no word on whether it will cause him to miss a start. -- Al

The surprising NYY's were within 1 strike of losing 2-0 to the Cubs yesterday when lightning struck in the form of Gardner's 3-run Hr, winning the game 3-2 when Chapman shut down the Cubs in the bottom of the 9th. The Evil Empire is alive and well. -- Al

Talk to me July 1st. If the Yankees baby bombers are still playing above expectations that far into the season, I'll start to get excited. Right now I am more interested in the individual young players developing. Unless someone cloned Babe Ruth, Aaron Judge has to come back to earth. I am hoping he develops into a .280+ hitter, who gives me 30+ homers and 90+ RBI's, to go along with his good right field defense and true right fielders arm. We only got Gary Sanchez back yesterday, and I hoping for similar production for him as a catcher. Bird has been terrible so far, and I'm hoping he comes around. We have quality young players at Second (Starlin Castro) and short (Didi Gregorious), as well as quality young back ups at Catcher (Austin Romine), utility infield (Ronald Torreyes) and outfielder (Aaron Hicks). If Bird, Judge and Sanchez are as good as I hope, we are set with good young players at first, right field and Catcher. The Yankees bullpen is one of the best in the league.

The glaring weakness on this team, which I expect will bring it back to earth, is the starting rotation. Sabathia is iffy at best, Pineda is a head-case who either pitches lights out or stinks, Luis Severino is inconsistent, and while the rookie, Tommy Layne, looks okay, he is at best a 4th or 5th starter. The only reliable starter we have (and he is not an ace, although we pay him like one), is Tanaka.

If by July 1st the Yanks are still contending, then I will start to think about this as a potential playoff season, a totally unexpected bonus. Right now, in my mind, the Yanks are doing a great job rebuilding without stinking on ice (like they did in the late 60's early 70's when I was a kid). That is more than enough for me to enjoy this season, without worrying about them returning to the "Evil Empire" domination this year.

As Louis mentioned, starting pitching is the key because they have a very good offense a good bullpen. If they are still in it by July 1, I wonder if the powers that be will try to make a deal for a SP by the deadline. Trouble is, I think they need to obtain more than one SP.

I hope they don't try to trade for a starter, unless it is a true top of the line ace. I like having the prospects and good young players, and would rather wait until the off-season and use the Yankees unlimited resources to buy a couple of quality starters with the money freed up by CC's and A-Rod's expiring contracts.

I agree they should be patient and come what may the youngsters will have acquired valuable experience for years ahead.

The O's are a good example of a team that won't bust the budget on starting pitching. They fill the gaps with cast-offs and second tier players in the starting rotation, while winning with their bullpen, hitting, and fielding. No reason that the NYY's can't do the same thing until the opportunity to sign true aces presents itself. The O's can't, or won't, spend on SP's, but NY certainly can. NY just shouldn't disrupt their rebuilding program to get those pitchers for a possible run to the playoffs this season. Anyway, I'm glad that the NYY's don't have to go through the late 60's/early 70's as they rebuild. Those were ugly years for them. -- Al

Or as I call them, "The golden years"...........................

I thought I heard there was some confusion as it looked like it was called, so the runners froze; to be honest, I didn't watch the game. As a matter of fact, I haven't watched much baseball at all this year so far, been caught up with what the Patriots have been doing this off season, playoff hockey, Celtics playoff basketball, a ton of Spring shows, a weekend trip out to Chicago to pick up "The Collection", plus I got into a new period for my 20mm collection, so baseball has taken a back seat........................

Well good news Al... that Tillman is scheduled to start tommorow, if the O's can back to Tillman, Gausman, Bundy, Wiley and my fav. Tyler Wilson who pitched a great game after Gausman got tossed in the 1st against the Red Sox, I really believe that be a decent rotation, I was kind of surprised Britton came back so soon, O'day, Brach can handle the closings for the most part, Britton needs to heal 100% before bringing him back.

Also good news, the MRI showed no damage beyond the strain, so just rest for Britton. -- Al

The Reds have outscored the Giants 27-5 in two games. Either the Reds are really good or the Giants are really bad. Perhaps both is more likely.

It's must be nice to have your plate full with professional sports. In Kentucky, we can only "watch from afar." :rolleyes2: Chris

As a side note, just returned from my nephew's wedding. Brides family is all from NY and our side is B'more. I had a few minutes to make a few remarks and wound up having both sides cheering for the Yankees or O's. ^&grin
Tough to start married life with a sports chasm in the family. :wink2:

BTW, WE out did them. {sm4} and I brought home two cases of Natty Boh. :smile2: Chris
