2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

I don't usually play the second-guess game where Buck and the O's are concerned but I have to ask "What was Buck thinking?" by bringing uBADo into a 2-1 game in the 8th inning? He promptly turned a 1-run deficit into a 4-1 deficit. Come on Buck, there is a whole bullpen full of better choices than uBADo. -- Al

If I was Buck and had to choose between two Orioles relievers to bring into a one run game in the 8th inning and had to pick between this tomato can and Stu Miller, I
'd go with Stu Miller and he's been dead for two years...................but he'd still have a better shot of keeping it a one run game.

Cueto started the season strong but lately he has looked average at best. He struck out 9 today but gave up timely hits when the Phillies had runners in scoring position etc. With Bumgarner out and Samardzija having a terrible season I had hoped that Cueto would anchor the starting pitching staff but so far that has not happened.
Really unfortunate that no one on the staff has manned-up to try and stabilize the situation after the loss of Bums. A staff full of vets like Cueto, Samardzija, Moore, and Cain but no one other than Blach, a kid with 5 career victories, seems to want to step up. I don't get it. -- Al

Al:

Great point about the Giant's rotation.

I just heard on local talk radio that Cain, Cueto and Samardzija's combined salary in 2017 is $59 mil and they are a combined 9-16. Ouch.

Congratulations to Pujols for hitting career Hr #600 in last night's 7-2 win over the Twins. He did it in grand style as it was a Grand Slam. Nice punctuation mark on #600. :salute:: -- Al

I think it will be a long time before we see another player hit 600.
I wonder if he can stay around long enough to get to 700. He is also closing in on 3000 hits, currently at 2876. He could do it if he stays in the AL. -- Al

Got to watch 2 games for the price of one today. It was Nats vs Athletics. Game 1 was a great pitchers duel, with the Athletics leading 1-0 after 5 innings. Game 2 then started, an offensive shootout with the Nats winning by a final score of 11-10 in 9 innings. It was another example of the Little League Nats bullpen imploding and almost losing the game. Nats went to the bottom of the 9th with a 11-4 lead. Easy win, right? Not when your bullpen can't get a 10 year old girls softball team out. The Athletics scored 6 runs in the 9th but ran out of baserunners and outs, thus resulting in an underwhelming 1-run win. But as they say, a win is a win. Gosh, I hate the bullpen.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Al:

He will probably finish with 600+ HRs, 3000 hits and 2 championships. He has to be considered an all-time great.

The Nats have exactly one (1), as in uno, relief pitcher with an ERA under 4. 2 have ERA's over 5 and 2 are over 6. One, currently on the DL, has an impressive ERA of 9.49. Nats relief pitchers are also giving up gopher balls at an astonishing rate. The guy who gave up today's Grand Slam had yielded 7 Hr's in 15 innings. Baker brought him in with the bases loaded but that problem was solved real quickly.:rolleyes2: What an impressive group our bullpen is. -- Al

I missed him hitting the HR. I stayed up Friday night to watch his ABs but he didn't connect. We went out Saturday and missed it by five minutes! It was a great moment in what isn't a great season so far. Their hitting hasn't been great and is even more challenged now that Trout is out for around two months.

One of the coolest parts of Pujols hitting his 600th HR is the story about the fan who caught the historic ball. Scott Steffel gave it back for free saying:

“It’s not my ball, it’s his. He deserves it. He’s one of the best baseball players right now. Of all time.”

Hadn't heard that the guy gave the ball back. Nice to see someone still cares about the achievement and the history instead of hocking the ball for huge dollars, like I'm sure he could have. Bravo, Mr. Steffel. -- Al

Before he hit his HR, his wife called with some batting tips.

Nail-biting time in LA. Nats lead 4-2 after 6 but the Nats now have to go to the bullpen for the last 9 outs. Time to double down on my BP meds.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Whew! Bullpen actually comes through and Nats win 4-2 over the Trolley Dodgers. -- Al

That was a great game, Rendon is one of the most underrated players in the game.

I just started watching tonight's game.

Red Sox beat the MFY's tonight 5-4, Kimbrel comes in for the four out save, punches out the all four of them including Quasimodo to end it.

Red Sox hit three absolute bombs off of Tanaka, he had two pitches working for him tonight, balls and home runs.

The one Moreland hit just landed in Sammy's back yard.............................one game out of first, thank you very much.

Rendon is excellent and a very popular player in DC. He is nearly flawless on defense but doesn't seem to get the recognition for it.
Meanwhile, another outstanding effort by Mad Max and even the much-maligned bullpen in tonight's 2-1 win over the Dodgers. The Nats are 7-1 on this west coast swing with the finale tomorrow pitching Strasburg against Kershaw. You can bet I'll be parked in front of the tube come game time.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

As great as Scherzer was the main event is really Strasburg against Kershaw.

I am used to Bumgarner vs. Kershaw but this match-up will do just fine!
