2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

Don't want to tell Buck his business, but the O's need to get Trey Mancini into a regular spot, playng every game. He is now 2nd on the team in BA and RBI's (trailing the leader by 1) as a part time player. He's been a big plus all year. Give him a spot and let him run with it. Also, relief pitcher Mychal Givens has now tied Bundy as leader of the pitching staff with 6 wins (the same amount O's starters Gausman, Miley, and Jimenez have combined). Not a great statement on the O's starting pitchers, but a great statement on the O's ability to win late. -- Al

And now 9-1 in extra innings games! Trey should be a regular, I guess Buck wants to give everyone PT. Trey is same age as Schoop, 25. I think his contract is currently $500K, that should change. :smile2: Chris

O's and Nats playing a make-up game today. Nats are just off a long road trip and are resting Zimmerman, Murphy, Rendon, and Werth is on the DL. A perfect chance for the O's Asher to make a case for a spot in the rotation. Unfortunately, it's not working out for him. O's trail 5-0 after 3.5 and Asher has thrown 83 pitches in those 3 innings. Plenty of time for the O's to come back against the Nats #5 starter, but so far Ross has shut them down on 1 hit and has fanned 7 through 4. Plus, the Nats are running wild on O's catcher Caleb Joseph with 5 steals, 3 by Trea Turner. O's looking really flat against the Nats 'B' team. - - Al

Yea, yea....just wait until the 9th inning, then we'll turn it on!! ^&grin^&grin

Ah, yes. The O's 9th inning 'Death Punch'. Have to depend on uBADo to keep it close.:rolleyes2: Won't hold my breath on that but it ain't over till the fat lady sings. Meanwhile, the O's are making Ross look like Nolan Ryan. He's fanned 12 in 6 innings and allowed only 2 hits. O's have their job cut out for them. -- Al

No comeback tonight but it was asking a lot to do it 3 nights in a row. O's couldn't do anything with Ross who through his best game of the year. At least uBADo was effective in his 3 innings. Final was 6-1 in a game with 26 total K's. Lots o' swingin' goin' on.^&grin -- Al

The Giants got a nice win in extra innings against the Brewers today and now they host the Twins.

Just typing that seems strange, not the win but the Twins. I simply can't get used to inter-league games.

Through for threw?!? That's what I get for typing after my bedtime.{sm2} -- Al

Don't worry, I'm sure the LET'S GO O'S!!! will be down 14-0 in the ninth inning and score 15 runs all with two out to pull out another win from their collective you know what's...........................................

Only 15?

I see the O's are scrapping the barrel for pitching as they have called up Edwin Jackson, a long time journeyman pitcher with a 93-114 lifetime record and an unimpressive 4.65 lifetime ERA. Nats had him one year (2012) and he was 10-11 as a #5 starter with a 4.03 ERA. He was the only starting pitcher on that team with a losing record and a 4+ ERA. He was gone after 1 year. He was a disaster in his recent stint with the Cubs. Hope he does better with the O's. -- Al
Jackson has been unimpressive so far. 2 games, 3.1 innings, 6 hits (2 Hrs), 3 walks, and 1 strikeout. He ain't helping.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Wheels are wobbeling Al...starting to worry.

Don't worry Sammy, the O's have a lot of offense, not to mention the rest of the league stinks, you'll see both wild card teams come out of the AL East, the AL West is a dumpster fire outside of the Astros and the AL Central is mediocre too, the Twins?? are in first place........................

Sammy, I've got the same old worry and it revolves around the pitching. The starting pitching problems are well known, and now O'Day is gone again just as he and Brach were getting things together. As I mentioned in the earlier post, the O's are now reduced to the likes of Jackson to fill the gaps. Not good. Still feel the hitting and fielding will keep us in the hunt but the pitching just has to do better for any real shot in the post-season. -- Al

Yes, those same Twins that beat the Giants 4-0 on Friday.

At what point do I write this season off?

Jason, I hesitate to say give up this early, but the fact is the Giant season is now 40% done and the starting pitching simply has not stepped up in the absence of Bums. I was hoping to see them maybe stay around .500 but that hasn't happened. Maybe hang in to the All-Star break before giving up the ghost because there is always the chance the pitching could come around in the next month, but if it doesn't... -- Al

I am so tired of watching the Nat's little league bullpen blow games that it has taken on the aspects of black comedy. It has become very predictable. Today the closer blew a 3-1 9th inning lead and needed a superb outfield assist by Harper to keep the game tied at 3-3. Then in the 11th, 'Gopher Ball' Kelley did his usual terrible job, giving up a 3-run Hr, losing the game 6-3. Kelley has now given up 8 Hrs in just 15.2 innings of work. His ERA is a terrible 7.47. Just as another example of the Nat's bad bullpen work, the pen has now yielded 30 Hrs this season. It is a bad joke and still no moves to correct it. -- Al

As of right now, I completely agree with George's assessment, outside of the Astros, who are far and away the best team in he AL, the class of the AL are all in the East. Today the top four teams are over .500, and the Blue Jays, presently occupying the basement, are only 3 games under .500 after an awful start. As of today, I think the winner of the East will face the Astros in the ALCS.

But again, I don't really like to look at how things are going until July 1st. Then you have a large enough sample size to judge if players and teams are for real.
