2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

As Louis says, no use in taking the standings to serious until the break, but my never say never, old crippled, die hard Orioles keep trying to keep it interesting, with a run scoring differential of a negative -65 next to last in the AL only to the A's by 7 runs, worst pitching ERA in the league, the O's find themselves only 4 out at the beginning of the week{eek3}, not even looking at WC as that changes daily it seems, if this team can just get a bit of luck back from injuries, and a few starters can hold a lead or just not give up 5-9 runs!!! who knows.

Next weekend is our annual July 4th shindig, it will bleed into Sunday, then I'll be spending the following week prepping for the big Historicon wargaming convention being held in VA from July 12th through the 16th, then when I get back, NFL training camps will be opening, so my slate is full.

And sorry, the Red Sox after beating the best team in the AL 2 out of 3 proceeded to lose 2 out of 3 to the Royals with cheese, then they dropped 2 of 3 to the forever 500 Angels, including back to back losses to two journeymen tomato cans (sorry Brad, I know you like the Angels, so no offense).............that's downright embarrassing................losers of 5 of their last 7, they just aren't a fun team to watch, annoying is more like it, no sense getting annoyed................................

Bridwell is no tomato can. He was once highly regarded by the Orioles but didn't catch on. He was just recently called up by the Halos and besides beating the Sox also pitched creditably against the Yankees. They have a so so hitting team but have a good pen and good defense. Trout will be back soon and if they keep hanging around the WC race, they could become contenders. Everyone wants to write them off but they are not easy to beat.

So another pitcher the LET'S GO O'S!! let slip away.............you could assemble an all star rotation from all the pitchers they let walk.

And no, the Angels are not easy to beat, nor is Scioscia easy to miss.................he looks like he's wearing the infield tarp for a jersey at this point, what a planet he turned into..........................good luck the rest of the way, you're only 900 games behind the Astros, but thank God for the wild card scenario where you play 162 games to earn the right to play in a one game do or die situation, WOW is that exciting.

And speaking of exciting, with all the mound visits and instant replays that take and hour and a half to figure out, games are now running close to 4 hours.

Good Christ...................

They're 5 GB in the WC race. To be a contender, they're going to have to do better than win one, lose one groove they've been in. They've played as well with Trout as without him.

I think it remarkable that they have held their own without Trout. Like most borderline teams, they need help in the starting rotation, but who doesn't? -- Al

There doesn't appear to be any immediate help coming. Tyler Skaggs, who was supposed to be returning in July, suffered a setback and Garrett Richards won't be back until August.

Tyler Skaggs, who was supposed to be returning in July, suffered a setback.........................

Wow, so Boss has a son in the majors?

Does he do the Lido Shuffle, the dirty lowdown or does he live in Georgia and if so, is he all alone?

Sorry, that's the limit on my Boss Skaggs song knowledge.

Gee, you learn something new everyday.

I watched a ton of baseball this weekend and the one thing that stands out to me is that everything (and I do mean everything) has a sponsor, from the "Toyota out of town scoreboard" to the "French's Mustard exit velocity speed of the game", I truly believe that we are not far from a sponsor being brought to you by some other sponsor.

In what has become a depressingly common theme this season, the Nats bullpen once again turned a close game, a 1-0 deficit after 7, into a 5-0 deficit going into the bottom of the 9th. Naturally the Nats rally fell just short as the Cubs prevailed 5-4. The problems have begun to take a toll on the fans. Taken from the Obit column of a Richmond newspaper: Killebrew, Patrick, "Pat", aged 68, passed away peacefully at home, June 20, 2017, after watching the Washington Nationals relief pitchers blow yet another lead. Beloved father and husband, longtime attorney, former US Navy navigator and avid baseball fan and player...In lieu of flowers, send "donations" to the "Nationals Bullpen Fund". The obit is real, though probably a bit of tongue in cheek. Then again... -- Al

It was probably being a lawyer that did him in. Maybe KRod can help, if he can regain his form.

The Rockies are in a terrible downward spiral, heck they even lost to the Giants last night!

RIP Anthony Young, a great Met who died too young from a brain tumor. For those who have never heard of him, he lost 27 games in a row between 1992 and 1993 but bore it stoically and with grace and humor. He was only 51.

We will never forget you AY.

I remember him. His ERA showed that he was a decent pitcher despite his W-L record. RIP. -- Al

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the O's only allowed 1 run in the win tonight!!! Gausman looked like himself from a few years back, solid win all around.

MFY's were up 3-1 on the White Sox tonight in the 8th inning, but the bottom of the eighth, their lights out bullpen walked the bases loaded, then walked in a run making it 3-2.

The same lights out bullpen loaded the bases in the 9th with a walk, a walk and a hit batsman, then with two outs, the White Sox got a two run single to win the game 4-3.

That's three runs on one hit, 6 walks, 1 hit batsman.

Just priceless..............................

I am listening the Giants game tonight as I work.

Besides having one of the best voices in the game one other thing that makes John Miller great is that he is not afraid to call out players on the Giants.

He just spoke about Hunter Strickland's recent suspension for hitting Harper. He basically said that it was incredibly stupid and it hurt the team.

Miller is the best. Wish he was still in Baltimore. -- Al

Al:

I can't remember if it was you or Sammy that told me one of the reasons he was run out of Baltimore was his criticism of the Orioles?

Maybe I am in the minority, but I can't stand pure "homer" broadcasters. Miller calls it like it is, the only problem is that he is teamed with Mike Krukow who might be the most biased announcer/color commentator I have ever heard.

-Jason

I think we have the best broadcasters, with all due respect. I like Jon Miller but I think Gary Cohen is the best play by play announcer in the game and there's no better analyst than Ron Darling. Neither of them nor Keith Hernandez ever pull any punches.

I haven't listened to every broadcasting team but the Cardinals crew on TV are pretty good, especially when Tim McCarver is there.

Interesting Max Scherzer fact: Since joining the Nats in 2015, Mad Max has carried no-hitters into the 6th inning on 11 occasions (completing 2), far and away the most times in MLB in that stretch. -- Al
