And somehow the Cubs are back in 1st place?
Not a Cubs fan, either. Never bought into the 'lovable losers' crud and I don't buy into this 'superteam' crud led by a so-called genius. -- AlBecause, you know, the Brewers..........after burping and farting through most of the season with their WS hangover, watch them get hot now and win another one.
Gee, won't that be swell seeing Maddon and Theo whooping it up again; once in my lifetime was one time too many..........................
We all need goals, no matter how trivial that seem to be. I hope the Mets' goal is to finish 500, not what we had in mind in March but such is life.
I read that the Giants current record, 38-62 after 100 games, is the most losses the team has had at this point since moving to San Fran. I prefer to think that this is a positive statement about the team's remarkable consistency over almost 60 years rather than a condemnation of this year's team. -- AlThe Giants are now 30.5 games back of first. John Miller recently alluded to the fact that the team's main goal is to not finish in last place this year. Somehow that does not seem like a goal worth mentioning.
He's one of the NL's best. I hate to see him pitch against the Nats. Brad, what's the word on Harvey and Thor? -- AlDeGrom won his 12th tonight, more than any other NL pitcher except Kershaw.
Brad, I have lost track of who or what the Nats needs are at this point. Obviously, bullpen help is still on the list, but if Stras is down for any length of time, a SP will be needed, as well. On top of that, injuries are starting to really be a problem. Nats are banged up badly in the outfield, down to having to call up prospects to cover, and the infield isn't far behind. The dog days are starting, the trade deadline looms, and I have no idea what management is going to do. It will be an interesting week. -- AlAl, he had an uneven start to the year and then he had a very rocky outing against the Rangers where you could see he was visibly upset and Terry talked to him in the dugout and put his arm around him in a fatherly way and I don't know if it was that or maybe working with the pitching coach, or both, but he's been lights out since then.
Haven't heard anything about Harvey but Syndergaard has been cleared to throw so maybe we'll see him in late August.
After the game last night, the announcers said that the Nats might be one of the teams interested in Reed. Hopefully they weren't watching last night because he came within a whisker of blowing the game.
Most recent word was a possible return mid-August but Turner is due for another wrist x-ray this week that will firm up any return date. -- AlAl, it's those dog days. At least they have a chance to get healthy by October. Any word on Turner?
Another disturbing trend is emerging for the Nats. With tonight's 8-0 loss, after going the first 86 games without being shutout, the Nats have now been shutout 3 times in the last 12 games. It looks like the injuries that makes it necessary for the Nats to play 3-4 subs every night (and sometimes 5) has finally caught up to the offensive production or is at least effecting it. -- Al
Mad Bum comes back and throws a good game to win and now Samardzija does the same. Maybe the lift in morale on Bum's return will help the Giants salvage a bit of this season. -- Al
