2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

Well, 'ol' annual injury' Strasburg is headed to the DL again. This is his 9th trip to the DL since breaking into the majors in 2010, 2nd most by a pitcher in that period. Stras is good when he's healthy, but he is basically a part-time player. I guess the Nats just have to settle for the 14 or 15 wins a season that he will be able to provide around the trips to the DL. Not to awful, considering, but frustrating to see him constantly hurt and having his potential cut short. -- Al

Watching a fairly impressive display of power in today's Nats v Brewers game. Nats lead 9-0 after 3. They have 6 Hrs, 5 of which came in the 3rd. 4 were hit in a row (Goodwin, Difo, Harper, and Zimmerman), then Murphy was retired before Rendon added a 5th Hr in 6 at bats. In all fairness, the Brewers starter was a relief pitcher making a rare start. Still, 5 Hrs in one inning is fun to watch. -- Al

The pounding continues as the Nats batted around for the second inning in a row, adding 2 more Hrs in the 4th. Now 15-1 after 4. Nats have set a team record and tied the franchise record with 8 Hrs in a game. Nats park is playing like Coors field with 9 total Hrs in 4 innings.{eek3} -- Al

The breakup has begun: Duda has been traded to the Rays for a pitching prospect.

With the trade deadline on Monday it should be an interesting weekend.

According to local radio the Giants are trying to trade Cueto and Samardzija.

It will be a jumpin' weekend. I expect a blockbuster trade or two. Actually, the Nats could use either of those two guys. -- Al

Fun with numbers: Bryce Harper currently ranks #3 in the NL in BA at .338; #3 in Hrs with 27; #3 in RBI's with 79; and #2 in WAR at 4.7. If he keeps this up, these are MVP numbers. -- Al

Why not Murphy? His stats aren't that far behind Harper's plus he leads the league in doubles.

Very true, and something of a dilemma if both continue to produce like this for the rest of the season. In terms of the overall numbers, I think Harper just slips past Murphy, considering WAR and Hrs, but Murphy as an MVP is perfectly viable. He has been incredibly consistent and is a key to the Nats offense. Murphy always seems to come through when a hit is needed, so no real argument against his qualifications from me. Fact is, until cooling off over the last month, Zimmerman was putting up MVP-like numbers and Rendon also has support in DC as an MVP for the year he is having. Still, Harper and Murphy have the best claim for my money. -- Al

I don't watch the Nats all that much but when they play the Mets, Murphy kills them but they can generally handle Harper.

If the Nats don't lock up Murphy soon, they're crazy. On the other hand, his next contract will be his big chance to make big money and I'm sure a lot of teams will be after him, maybe even the Mets!

Agreed. Nats need to wrap up Murphy and also that guy named Harper, if possible, before he hits the market and wants $400 mil. {eek3} -- Al

Big series for the O's starting in Texas tonight. Rangers are one of the teams the O's must pass in the fight for the WC. Hope Tillman is up to the mark. -- Al

I know they are just rumors but I find it interesting that the Brewers are the front runners to land Darvish?

That's not what I've been hearing; I think the Dodgers are but we deal in a world of unfounded rumors.

I guess that is part of the fun (and frustration) of the trade deadline. Rumors abound and then the guy ends up with someone that was never mentioned as part of the rumors.

So much for that hope. Tillman leaves after 4.1 innings (about his average this season), trailing 6-0 and Texas promptly adds 2 more runs, so 8-0 after 4. O's in another huge hole, a common story since the break. Hard to believe Tillman of 2017 is the same pitcher who has won 72 games in the previous 8 seasons for the O's. Just 1 win in 14 starts this season. Has to be the biggest disappointment for the O's in a season of pitching disappointments. Tillman looks completely lost. Could be he has just never recovered from the springtime injury. There has to be some reason he is performing so badly. -- Al

Nats have acquired Howie Kendrick. I always liked him although he's not what he was when he played for the Angels.

Mets have acquired A.J. Ramos from the Marlins. He will step in as the closer when Reed, as now seems certain, is traded.

Yeah, we need the outfield depth and he fits the bill. -- Al

After tonight's loss, the O's are left with the daunting (and highly unlikely) task of going 42-18 in their remaining 60 games to reach 90 wins. Even a slightly more realistic 85 wins requires a 37-23 streak and probably leaves them out of the WC. They need to jump 6 teams to reach the WC, which they are 6.5 games out of. The numbers are heavily against them at this point but I am going to wait until the Texas series is over and Aug. 1 rolls around before officially throwing in the towel. I want to see what moves the O's make before the deadline and whether they can rally against Texas. -- Al

The Red Sox are now officially out of first place as they lost again last night while the MFY's, fresh off of their brinks job of a trade a few weeks ago are now in first place. They looked like dead men walking for a month, while the Red Sox farted around and couldn't put them away.

I love how the MFY's acquire talent for tomato cans while the Red Sox and other teams make trades and gut their farm systems.

Funny how the season slips away for the Red Sox the same week that the Patriots season starts; one sports door closes, another one opens.

Adios 2017 Red Sox; I'd say it's been fun, but this is one of the most unlikeable Red Sox teams I can ever remember, between Price calling out a hall of famer in Eckersley over critical comments he made about some of the pitchers (God forbid anyone do that, we should just coddle all these overpaid babies, not pick on them) to stories about how the players call the shots and the manager is just a puppet, they are not a likeable bunch at all.

Their offense has been anemic all year long, the young talent has not produced and they miss Ortiz, they have huge offensive holes as catcher, first and third as well, they are just not very good with the bats this year.

As I've stated in the past, this is the beginning of one of those MFY runs where they win the division several years in a row and move on to the WS with Quasimodo leading the way, their farm system is loaded and they've got a lot of money coming off of the books to be able to dive into free agency and sign Harper and whoever else they desire.

Can't wait for posts from Louis telling us all about how great the MFY's are doing on a daily basis for the next few years while the LET'S GO O'S!! and the Red Sox battle it out for last place, talk about exciting stuff............:rolleyes2:

I hope Brady's health holds up and Stevens and the Celtics go on a run as baseball will not be berry berry good to me for awhile..............
