2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

I just saw the Austin Jackson catch against the Sox. How is that not a HR? The ball didn't stay in the field of play, nor did the player. If, in another situation, the ball had hit the top of the wall and bounced over, that would be a HR. Thus, how is the ball in the Jackson play not a HR. If the rules aren't clear, they should be fixed.

Good question, I thought the same thing, I thought you had to stay in the field of play for it to be an out, but then I remembered the time when Captain Intangibles on the MFY's dove head first into the stands to catch a foul ball, he left the field of play and it was an out, similar to when a guy catches a pop up near the dug outs and then tumbles down the stairs, it's still an out..........................

I think if you catch it in the field of play, it should be an out but if you don't it should not be an out.

You implied he was dirty while in Boston, which he was not.

Spin it anyway you want, you were wrong.

Ortiz has never been busted for PED's, unless you believe the BS that he was but MLB squashed it because he's a swell guy while A-ROID got busted because he's an NERD, you're assuming he took them because everyone else did.

That's quite a reach.

If he did take PED's, he bought the bottom of the barrel type as for most of his career, he had a gut and a half, something you would not have if you were on PED's.

He's going into the Hall of Fame, somewhere Clemens and A-ROID will never enter unless they buy a ticket.

The Red Sox were one of the biggest offenders for PED's Louis? Really? How many of their players got busted? The MFY's had Clemens, A-ROID, Giambi and Petite, that's four right there, you tell me Quasimodo isn't on the sauce, he was crap in the minors, now he gets to the majors and he's hitting home runs into the next time zone.

The Red Sox won three WS titles, so they are cheating, just like the Patriots have won five Super Bowls, been to seven, been to six AFCCG's in a row because they cheated too right?

How's that for a challenge?

Its a pretty poorly reasoned challenge, that ignores pretty much all of the evidence against your position. I notice you failed to mention Manny being Manny's two failed tests. You reference Ortiz having a belly, I've seen plenty of offensive and defensive linemen in football who admitted to using PED's who had nice big pot bellies, along with huge upper bodies, just like Ortiz. I notice you didn't mention that Ortiz was outed as testing positive on the same test which was A-Roid's downfall, but, because he is popular with the media, they never crucified him like they did A-Roid (who deserved it, but then so did Ortiz). Finally, what is your explanation for his inability to hit 20 homers in a season before coming to the Red Sox, but then his ridiculous power production thereafter? Or his being washed up, and unable to catch up with a fastball in the first half of a season about 3 years ago, then sudden renaissance immediately after going to the DR over the all star break?

And I never said the Yankees were innocent, I stated that the Red Sox and the Yankees both had PED users. In past posts I have said none of the Yankee PED users belong in the hall of fame, and that the 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2009 championships were all tainted by PED use from Clemens and Pettite (1998-2000) and A-Roid (2009).

Finally, what has this got to do with the Patriots? Check your facts, George (look at the old posts on this forum). I am the one New Yorker who has consistently backed Brady and said deflategate was B.S. I also have called him the greatest QB of the Superbowl era and arguable the greatest of all time, I have taken pride in the fact that my Giants were the only team to beat him in the Superbowl. I also stated that I didn't care an iota if Bellichik cheated, as if he did, his cheating brought by Giants two Superbowl wins in 1986 and 1990 when he was our defensive coordinator/assistant head coach. So all in all, your post misses the point: pretty much every team was dirty back in the 1990's and 2000's, including both of ours, and if you believe otherwise, there's this great bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you!{sm4}

That's awesome Louis, thanks for the reminder of how Eli Gump and the Giants beat the Patriot twice in the Super Bowl................why don't you go for the trifecta and tell me all about your childhood memories of Bucky Dent hitting that home run with Mickey Rivers corked bat back in 1978 or more recently, you dancing around your house in your lucky pair of Lou Gehrig underwear when Aaron Boone hit the game winning home run in the ALCS back in 2003?

Can't wait.

It's always something. Nats no sooner fix the forlorn bullpen than the starting pitching gets decimated. Strasburg is out for however long; Scherzer has a neck issue and may miss starts; Gonzalez about to go on paternity leave. Anyone got any starting pitching they don't need? Orioles need not apply.:wink2: -- Al

I'd give you Cueto but he is now injured. Or as the Giants said he has "a mild strain of the flexor muscle in his forearm, and will be reevaluated after resting a week......."

I am no sure what to make of any of that?

The O's latest acquisition, Hellickson, did a fine job last night, going 7 innings of scoreless ball in the O's 6-0 win. If this guy can continue this, the O's will have a viable, if thin, rotation, providing Gausman also continues to improve. Bundy, Gausman, and Hellickson is a big improvement over 3 weeks ago when it was Bundy alone. Of course, a sharp Hellickson means either Miley or uBADo are probably finished as a starter. My bet is Miley because uBADo SEEMS to be in one of his effective streaks (but that could end next start). After being all but dead a week ago, the O's are back within one game of .500 and only 2.5 games out of the WC, having passed 3 of the 6 teams that were ahead of them a week ago. Hope lives in Baltimore.
Meanwhile, the Nats just continue to sputter along, going 6-7 in their last 13 games after losing 7-0 in Miami last night. All the injuries have caught up with them. It is the 4th time they have been shut out in the last 20 games, after going the first 86 games without being shutout. They also are playing rather listlessly, a problem Baker needs to address. You can't help injuries, but you can certainly help attitude. -- Al

George, you are too funny!{sm4} And you can remind me about the biggest collapse in MLB playoff history in 2004. Your teams have 5 Superbowl wins and 3 WS championships, while the generation of Patriots and Red Sox fans before you had nothing, so relax and enjoy the present, my friend!^&grin

I love it when you guys go at it ^&grin

Can we look forward to both of you reprising this in Chicago?

If I am physically up to making the trip, definitely!:smile2: Could you imagine if the Yanks and Red Sox are locked in a pennant chase in September? George might kill me!{sm4}

Might?

:wink2:

As we've discussed 1000 times, sports is the toy box of life, anyone who takes this seriously needs help; the older I get, the more I realize that.

I'd trade all three Red Sox WS titles and all five Patriots SB wins for ten more minutes with my Dad.

No lie.

And you know what, my friend, I'd take the pain I'm in for the rest of my life to give you that 10 minutes with your Dad, he was the best.

I wouldn't wish the pain you are in with your back on my worst enemy, there is nothing worse than back issues.

I had a situation about seven years ago, pinched a nerve or something, felt like someone stabbed me with an ice pick, took me 5 minutes to get in and out of my jeep for two days, it was brutal, thank God it went away in a few days.

Best of luck........................

I don't know what the O's should do about Tillman. He had another disaster tonight, giving up 7 runs in 2+ innings and putting the O's in another huge hole, 7-0. He has had only 3 QS in 15 starts and has won only once, his first start on May 7. He's not even averaging 5 innings a start and his ERA has soared to 8.10 with tonight's lemon. I know I'm down on Miley and uBADo, but as bad as they are, they at least give the O's a marginally better game. Tillman has just been awful and I really don't see how the O's, fighting to save their season, can afford to send him to the mound anymore. Someone needs to grow a pair and make the tough decision regarding Tillman. -- Al

I forgot to mention that the O's executed a triple play against Detroit in the 2nd inning or things could have been a lot worse and Tillman may not have even gotten to the 3rd inning where it all went bad. -- Al

It comes and goes. Its pretty bad at the moment, but I have good days too. But I meant what I said about your Dad, he really was one of the best people I've known.

O's playing in Bizarro world, up is down, night is day. O's got a superb start from Gausman, 7 innings and 1 run, leaves with a 2-1 lead, and turned the game over to Givens, who was 7-0 on the year, has had only 1 really bad game all year and had only yielded 2 runs in his last 25 games, and what happens, Givens has his worst outing this season and gives up a GS in the 8th, giving the Tigers a 5-2 lead and the eventual win. It's always something. This one is going to leave a mark. -- Al

Bumgarner is now 1-5 after losing to Arizona last night 2-1. That is tough to see let alone believe.

Gotta love the Murph. After destroying the Cubs in the 2015 playoffs, he continued his history against them in yesterday's Nats/Cubs game. He hit 2 Hrs and drove in 3 in the 4-2 Nats win. Hopefully, Madon continues to angst over Harper and continues to ignore Murphy. -- Al

A tough loss, but typical of the way the year is going for Bums and the Giants. Bums is pitching fantastic but gets no support. I mean, his ERA is only 2.88, with 7 QS in 9 outings, and he has lost 4 games by scores of 2-1, 2-0, 3-1, 2-1, and had a ND in a game where he allowed 0 runs. Terrible run support! He could easily be 6-1, and should be. So it goes. -- Al
