2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

Al:

Congrats on clinching the East.

The question now is do you want them to rest or keep fighting in the hopes of getting HFA?

-Jason
Jason, I believe that Dusty is going to do his best to catch LA now that they have gotten within shouting distance, but I don't think Dusty will alter his way of doing things in the process. He has given the starters regular rest all season just to keep them fresh and has even increased that since the call-ups at the start of the month. He won't change the process now, especially since the call-ups have played so well. In fact, during the latest Strasburg start on Sunday, there was one regular starter in the line-up, Turner, who is still pretty fresh off the DL and is still playing himself back to top form. I don't see Dusty putting all his starters on the field the rest of the way in any one game, except for a tune-up or two. -- Al

Well the O's leave Cleveland 3 games out of the WC chase, I guess in the back of my mind I still believe there is some magic dust left in the O's season, off to take on the Jays then a trip to N.Y. if??.....maybe???...still hoping :)

Seeing the Indians this week chasing history is just hard to believe, 18 in a row!!!!! I'm pulling for them to break the win total, I got to admit to the fellas that remember the AL East with the Tigers, Indians still in the division in was always a "gimme" series to see the Indians up next!! ^&grin you know it was a easy best 3 of 4 or a clean sweep for some easy victories against those Indians, today not so much.

Don't worry Sammy, the Red Sox are coming to town next week for a three game series, so that's three wins for the LET'S GO O'S!!!! right there and you're right back in the thick of the WC race.................you can bust my balls next week at the show when you see me.................

O's have picked a really bad time to stop scoring runs, only 5 in the last 4 games. Tonight they are scoreless after 3 and trail 2-0. Making the Toronto starter, who had a 5.00 ERA to start the game, look like a Cy Young candidate. O's need to get to him before uBADo gives away the game. -- Al

I think that home series against New York last week was the nail in the coffin, the O's had battled back so hard and then that series they just fell apart...we'll see, 3 games out isn't a end all but at this rate they HAVE to win basically every series to get back into it,........ Ahhh the show!!!! I try not to think about it to much as I'm afraid I might jinx myself!!^&grin

Painful loss, 4-3, and the O's now further under .500 at 71-73. Terrible skid and no offense as we have only scored 8 runs in the 5 straight losses. Terrible timing. Now 0-4 on the 10 game road trip when we really needed a 6-4 or 7-3 trip. Things ain't looking good.:( -- Al

Yankees and Tampa are playing at Citifield tonight due Hurricane Irma and Tampa is the home team. The only one who really feels at home is Lucas Duda.

Rare potential rain-out for the Dodgers at the Giants tonight. I think this is only the 7th rain-out since AT&T park opened in 2000.

I am not sure which is worse, the fact that the Giants and Dodgers are still playing at 4am EST or the fact that I am still watching them?

The Dodgers seem to be facing a system wide collapse. The team is hitting under 200 during the streak, the SP ERA has skyrocketed, many of the regulars are hitting under 200, in his last 20 batters faced, Baez has only retired nine and their two mid season acquisitions -- Darvish and Granderson -- have flopped and so on. Justin Turner calls them "the worst team in baseball" and right now they are. Roberts is trying not to panic, noting that they still have the best record in baseball and trying different lineups.

Right now a little league team could probably beat them.

Once they get a win, they should be alright but obtaining that elusive win is the question. I have to think they will get it against the Giants.

The Dodger collapse, and the Indians streak, both at the same time, has emphasized the pure randomness of baseball. Who could have seen or even imagined such a pair of streaks for these teams. I'm more amazed by the Dodgers problems than I am by Cleveland's dominance. The Dodgers just slaughtered everyone for 3/4 of the season, looking to set an all-time record for wins, and now it has all just disappeared. Baseball can be amazing. -- Al

Speaking of which, has anyone heard from Carlos, better check the deep end of the pool.........................

The NL Central race is probably more compelling, but I think the focus is on the Dodgers due to their early success.

A couple of weeks ago Sports Illustrated had a cover with the Dodgers on it that read "Best Team Ever?".

A heartbreaking loss for the O's in Toronto, 3-2, as Toronto scored 2 off Britton in the 9th to walk-off with the win and in all probability, finish the O's season. Maybe not numerically, yet, but this is a real morale breaker as well as their 6th loss in a row. I'm about to wave the white flag.:( -- Al

Don't worry, the LET'S GO O'S!! still have three game 7's coming up on the 18th, 19th and 20th; after Buck's pregame speech, they'll be ready to storm pillboxes on Iwo Jima...................the only problem is it's 2017 and those pillboxes have been empty since 1945.

The Orioles (as well as the Rays) are five back in the loss column with 17 to go. That's too much room to make up. Even the Mariners, who are four back, are a long shot. It's basically down to Rangers, KC and LA to challenge Minnesota.

Agree. The O's are now in the position of having to jump 6 teams. I'll continue to believe until the numbers say it's over, but realistically, they're kaput. They needed to have a good road trip but it has been a total disaster, flushing the season. The O's never were able to do any kind of winning on the road this whole year and it has killed them. At this point, it will be a tough slog just to finish at .500. -- Al

For a team that had so many ups and downs, just being where the O's are now is impressive. I know, winning is what matters but it is nice to see your team stay in it for so long and truly fight to the end.

I agree a 100% Jason, no doubt a run to the World Series would have been lovely or a AL East title, but just not enough good pitching and to many offensive slumps this year for my birds, but it has been a hell of a ride all the way to September, that's all I can ask for, and even though there is no way hardly to make a push for a WC, until it's over I'm still hoping. who's that singing??? oh it's the fat lady. :):)
