2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (2 Viewers)

Yup, it was a tough season, both for me and Jason.

Good luck against the Cubs. Hope Scherzer is ok for the playoffs. Hope you guys get it done this year.

Brad
Thanks, Brad. Scherzer tweaked a hammie and is listed as uncertain for the first game on Friday. If Strasburg has to go instead, it is no disadvantage. We really need to get past the Cubs. -- Al

O's finish their September collapse with a 6-0 loss, awarding them sole ownership of last place in the AL East. Looks like all the pre-season predictions were accurate. Very disappointing that they couldn't even muster the 1 win to at least tie for 4th spot as they finish with a 5 game losing streak. Cellar Dwellers is not a title to relish. Kind of embarrassing to go 7-21 the last month of the season and win the race to the basement.:redface2: Opening Day is March 29, 2018, so SIGN SOME DECENT STARTING PITCHING!!! -- Al

What a miserable ending, never thought I'd be so glad to see the regular season come to a end, but this one couldn't end fast enough!!! Al, you mentioned 2018 but to be perfectly honest I see a worse case situation next year, Angleos isn't going to sign any huge contracts, I think he did his best as the owner for the last few years on big contracts and we have NOTHING to show for it but one AL East title a few years back and a couple WC games, Machado is going to be a rich man somewhere (hello N.Y.) Trumbo, Davis were no where to be found for the most part, A.Jones is past his prime by a few years, J.J. Hardy was a forgotten man after his injury, as far as pitching there is nothing on that shelf that excites me for 2018, Bundy maybe, just for God's sake please cut UBADO, and his trusty sidekick Miley!!!!! if were gonna suck in 2018 let's not have it at those 2 expense!!!............. I know as I sit here typing, the holidays will come and go, the cold will turn to warmer temps and my hopes will be renewed for a Oriole title and I guess that is all one can do is turn the page and look to next season as I've become very accustomed to that over the last few decades.

Anyway, I do wish any of the guys who post on this thread "good luck" in the post season and may your team win that World Series trophy I dream of every year.

Nats are taking a beating today as Dusty has pulled his regulars after a couple of innings to get them their recognition from the home crowd. Been a very successful regular season for the Core 4 as Rendon finishes with a .301 BA, 25 Hr's, and 100 RBI's. Murphy finishes with a .322 BA, 23 Hr's, and 93 RBI's. Zimmerman had a spectacular year with a .303 BA, 36 Hr's, and 108 RBI's. Harper only played in 111 games due to injury but still finished with a .319 BA, 29 Hr's, and 87 RBI's. The Nats starting pitchers, the BIG 3, also had good years. Scherzer finished 16-6 with a 2.51 ERA (with 3 shortened starts due to health issues). Strasburg finished 15-4 with a 2.52 ERA (missed 4/5 starts with injury). Gonzalez will finish 15-9 with a 2.96 ERA (his best year since 2012). Now all they have to do is find a way to get past the first round of the playoffs to make this a really successful season. If they don't, with this team, there will be disappointment and finger pointing, (by me, anyway:wink2:). -- Al
Well, this toothache of a final game is finally over with the Nats losing 11-8. Not a huge deal but what a poster-child for a nightmare baseball game. It was regulation length, BUT there were 30 total hits, 14 walks, 20 K's, 18 runs, 15 pitchers, and a total of 432 pitches. The miracle is that the game only took 4 1/2 hours! :rolleyes2: Ouch! My eyes hurt and my head aches.
Thus endeth the 2017 regular season. Bring on the playoffs! -- Al

I’d love for the Yankees to win the wildcard game and play in the ALDS, but I think this year will be a rematch of last year’s World Series, with Cleveland beating the Cubs this time.i think the Indians will play the Astros in the ALCS, and the Cubs will play the Diamondbacks. I think we see another monumental playoff choke job by the Dodgers and the Nationals, who perinially won their Division and get knocked out in the first round of the playoffs.

This has been an ugly collapse. After staying in contention all year, I never saw this coming. Thought they might just squeak by and get in or just miss out, but never expected everyone to go in the dumper together. I mean, 7-20 during the crucial month of September? Just awful. No pitching (nothing new there) but the offensive failure surprises me. I guess it shouldn't though, as the O's went through stretches of bad offense this year. In 74 of their games, they scored 3 or fewer runs and in 50 of those, it was 2 or fewer runs. You can't win many games scoring like that, at least not enough. Combined with a SP ERA north of 5, I guess the results were predictable, which makes their staying in the race as long as they did pretty remarkable and a tribute to Buck's managing. Now it is up to ownership to find Buck 3 decent starting pitchers in the off-season to go with Bundy and Gausman, or O's fans can look forward to more frustration in 2018. -- Al
Just found out that the O's SP's finished the season with an official ERA of 5.70, good for LAST in the AL, and maybe MLB for that matter.:rolleyes2: -- l

More interesting stats for the O's, from an offensive standpoint, they struckout 1412 times, most in franchise history and they walked 392 times, the least in franchise history. So many new records. I'm so proud.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Wow, only 1,412???? I thought 'Crush" Davis had that number by himself. ^&grin^&grin

As the playoffs start I want to wish Al, Carlos, George and Louis the best of luck.

Thank you very much! I already got way more out of this season than I expected. If we win the wildcard game, and make it to the ALDS I will consider this season a complete success.

The end of season invariably brings changes to losing teams so today the Mets announced that the pitching coach and trainer would not be back. Considering that the pitching was awful and injuries were widespread, this is not a shock. Almost all of the other coaches were told they’re free to look for jobs elsewhere. Not fired but in limbo.

Thanks, Jason. I would be happy just to see the Nats get past the first round and over the moon to see them take the flag. -- Al

Here's hoping Bartolo Colon decides to retire. He has had an outstanding, and surprising, career but this last season was not good. He reached the 240 win mark but his ERA of 6.48 was hideous and unfortunately raised his career ERA to 4.04. Like to see him get out before he hurts his career numbers any further. I suspect he is trying to hang on long enough to become the all-time leader in wins amongst Latin American pitchers. He currently trails only Juan Marichal at 243 and the leader, Dennis Martinez at 245. He has nothing more to prove and at 44 years of age and 20 years in MLB, he's earned his retirement. -- Al

Plus he finally hit a home run!

Not a good start for the NYY's. Methinks the pressure got to Severino.:rolleyes2: Now the pen has to stop the bleeding and hold the Twins. -- Al

Nevermind. Back to square one as Santana also got squished by the pressure. Playoff baseball, a whole different animal. -- Al

Why would anyone think the poor Twins have a shot vs the MFY's, they're 2-12 lifetime in the playoffs.

If they had scored 10 in the top of the first, Quasimodo would have hit a 10 run home run in the bottom of the first to tie it.

And so it goes for the Twins....................

After being up 3-0, they've been outscored 7-1.

And whoever it was in the MFY organization who came up with that annoying music after an opposing player K's, I want to hunt him down and ram a pencil from one side of his head clear through to the other....................

That's the P.C. Richards theme song . . . they are local chain of electronics and appliance stores, who pay the Yankees handsomely for that annoying jingle to be played after each K.

Congrats, Louis. On to Cleveland. -- Al

So it's over then?

Thank God.

MFY playoff games are like a colonoscopy; the prep is uncomfortable, once it starts I have no desire to watch and I can't wait for it to end.

Nice touch by ESPN to have horseface on in the pregame, his mug looks wonderful in HD.

And that Mendoza in the booth; good lord.....................they named a line after her in baseball and she is just as incompetent, only it's at broadcasting, not batting.

The Twins could play the MFY's 1,000 times and they'd have no shot of winning once.

It's like watching the Germans steamroll through Poland in 1939.
