2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (1 Viewer)

The Angels spit the bit as I predicted and were swept. The Rangers made hay while the Twins and Angels slept and are now tied with the Angels in the loss column.

Looks like a 4 team shootout for that last spot. I say that because the way these teams keep trying to lose, a 3 game deficit doesn't seem impossible to make up with 10 games left. Still, my money is now on the Twins or Angels, just because of the rooting factions. -- Al

Got a really obscure stat that I can't really say means anything. There are 6 teams in MLB that have as many or more Quality Starts as they do victories. Oakland, with 69 of each. Philly with 61 of each. Detroit with 69 QS and 62 wins. SF with 78 QS and 60 wins. Atlanta with 73 QS and 68 wins. Now, the only team with a winning record in this group is the Nationals, with 92 wins but with 96 QS, which leads baseball. Like I said, interesting, but not sure what to make of it. -- Al

Bad night for me and the local teams. Both the O's and the Nats are starting pitchers I hate. O's started uBADo who wasted no time in yielding a Grand Slam in the 2nd inning, putting the O's in a hole once again. uBADo's reign of incompetence comes to an end with this season as his contract is finally up. Thank goodness. The Nats have started Gopher Ball Jackson, who has also done his thing and yielded a HR in the 2nd, but at least it was a solo. The sooner this joker is off the team, the better. He has now given up 19 Hr's in 67 innings this year. Why has he got a job? Jeesh. -- Al

Well, uBADo lasted 3 innings and left the O's in a 6-2 hole and Gopher Ball Jackson gave up a second Hr, blew a 6-1 lead, and left after 4.2 innings in a 6-6 game. These 2 guys really suck and shouldn't even be close to being in the major leagues. :mad: -- A;

It looks to be over for the Angels or anyone else pursuing the Twins. Angels had a brutal schedule this week: Indians and Astros. Luck of the schedule.

The NL WC is very much alive. Here's hoping Pete's Brewers make it.

Been away for a while, trying to get caught up on baseball etc.

The Giants only need 2 more wins in there last 6 games to avoid 100 loses.

Judge broke McGwire's rookie Hr record of 49 today, when he hit numbers 49 & 50 in the NYY 11-3 win over the Royals. I guess that wraps up the RoY award.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Some good news for the Nats as Harper has been activated off the DL. Question now is will the 6 games that are left be enough for him to get his timing, etc., back for the playoffs. Common sense says no, but any Harper is better than no Harper as the Nat offense can attest to. -- Al

I am still hoping that the Giants finish strong, then Matt Moore goes 1.1 innings tonight, gives up 8 runs (7 earned) on 5 hits 3 walks and 1 home run. Oh, and no strikeouts.

Ouch.

The season ends in a few days and the casualties have started: Mets will replace their pitching coach after a terrible pitching season: a 5.02 ERA that is next to last in the NL. Collins will be gone by Monday. Joey Cora is a favorite to replace him.

I have heard that a few teams are interested in Joey Cora, including the Tigers.

I hope he lands with the Mets.

That was bad, BUT, the Giants lead in the 7th today. If they can hang on and win they will have avoided the big 100 losses, and that will be worth while from a morale and pride standpoint. -- Al

Giants give up 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th!? You gotta be kidding me. Still got 3 more chances to win one. It will be righteous if Cain gets that win in his last start before retirement. -- Al

Al:

All of the loses hurt, but today's really hurt. I was watching the game and really thought they had it won.

And you are right, it would be truly great if Cain could get that win. He deserves it after all he has done for the organization.

After getting curb stomped by the former AAAstros tonight, the Red Sox magic number to clinch the AL East dropped to one after Quasimodo popped out to end it in the Bronx 9-6; guess he didn't have a walk off bases empty grand slam in him tonight.

Any combination of 1 Red Sox win or 1 MFY loss will do it.....................then it's on to Houston where the Red Sox will get demolished by the 1927 Yankees, also known as the 2017 AAAstros.......................

And on a side note, it was worth getting demolished tonight in exchange for seeing Gardner take two fastballs right down the middle in the bottom of the ninth.

Nettles, Munson, Chambliss, Hunter, Gossage, Rivers, Pinella, O'Neil, Jeter, Posada, Shemp, Sherman Klump, McCann, Gregorious and Quasimodo all have nothing on Gardner, he's by far the most hated MFY in my lifetime, he of the bulbous head.....................imagine how many neck holes he's stretched out on finely knit sweaters over the years.

The Nats closer, Sean Doolittle, blew his first save since coming over to the Nats in July. He had saved 21 games. It was only the second blown save by the Nats since the All-Star game, as opposed to 14 before the break. Glad he got it out of his system before the playoffs start. He had walked a tight-rope several times and you could see it coming. Even so, the Nats won the game in walk-off fashion, making Doolittle the winner. Such is baseball. -- Al
