Duke looked unstoppable. Was hoping to see UK do better or Duke do a little worse but it was an impressive early win. UMd opened with a squeaker, getting past Delaware by 6. Unimpressive shooting but Jalen Smith did well for the Terps. -- AlDuke blew outUK. Calapari has a lot of work to do. Chris
I see UMd has gotten a #24 ranking in the AP Poll. They do have a 6-0 record but haven't played anyone yet. That will change with their next 3 games against #4 UVa, PSU, and #19 Purdue. Guess we'll find out if they should be ranked. Their trio of Fernando, Smith, and Cowan have looked good so far. -- Al

True enough and predictable but there were some good signs. UMd has gotten blown out of games like this in the past. They fell behind by 13 but rallied and stayed in the game. Terps are young with one Junior starter, 2 soph starters, and 2 frosh starters. Even 3 of their main subs are freshman. I was ok with last night's game and feel this team will only improve. The trick is to keep all these youngsters from leaving school after 1 or 2 years.:rolleyes2: -- AlGuess who lost last night. :rolleyes2: Chris
Terps weren't as sharp tonight against PSU but managed a win. #19 Purdue is next up. Just checked the roster and this team only has 2 seniors and 3 juniors on the 15 man roster (along with 6 freshman and 4 sophs). They are younger than I thought. -- AlTrue enough and predictable but there were some good signs. UMd has gotten blown out of games like this in the past. Announcers said during tonight's win that the Terps were the 5th youngest team in the nation. Hadn't realized that, though I knew they were young. Big 10 schedule starts in earnest next for the 10-3 Terps. -- AlTerps weren't as sharp tonight against PSU but managed a win. #19 Purdue is next up. I should know better, having followed UMd b-ball since the mid-60's, but I get sucked in every time. I believe every time. They has a good week last week, getting their record to 14-3 and getting ranked at #19 in the polls. So tonight they go out, build a 21 point lead against Wisconsin in the 2nd half, and they manage to fold like wet cardboard and barely held on to win by 4, 64-60, after Wisconsin led 60-59 in the last minute. Games like this are why I can't watch them from start to finish, just too hard on my BP. :rolleyes2: -- Al
I sure hope it works out that way, but the Terps are really young and lack of experience usually shows up at some point. This Terp team will be dangerous next year, providing they can keep everyone from going pro.:rolleyes2: -- AlMaybe the loss to Wisconsin won't look so bad after the Badgers beat the previously undefeated Wolverines last night?
As I mentioneded before I think the Big 10 is loaded this year. I think the Terps have shown well so far with a tourney bid on the horizon. My further bet is that they will do some damage once they get there.
Interesting note #2 on tonight's Duke v NC game; this is the 46th meeting between the two teams while they both are ranked in the Top 10. It is also the 149th consecutive time that the two teams have met where at least one of them was ranked in the AP poll. The last time neither was ranked when they met was 1960. Since 1976, in 103 meetings, NC has a 52-51 edge. -- AlInteresting note on tonights Duke v NC game tonight, tickets to the game at Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium are going for over $3000, and there isn't a Michael Jordan or Christian Laettner in sight.{eek3} -- Al
