2018 Baseball season (1 Viewer)

On the upside for the O's, they are a game ahead of the 1988 team. The 1988 team was 18-49 at this point while the current version is 19-48. Baby steps...:rolleyes2: -- Al

It has simply been a rough year for the O's. Some teams have bad games, others have bad series. Unfortunately for Baltimore they are having a bad season.

After losing two out of three to the dumpster fire White Sox, the Red Sox just swept the LET'S GO O'S!!, including a lights out performance by Sale today. The Orioles are the only team in MLB not to have won at least 20 games thus far this season, they are 3 games ahead of the pace set by the 1962 Mets and are on pace for a 46 win season.

Yikes.

Buck's and Duquette's contracts are up after this year, they are both goners, Machado, Britton and I think Jones are all up after this year too.

Look for a massive fire sale around the trade deadline; after several years of making the playoffs including the ALCS where they lost to the Royals, looks like it's back to th drawing board for the Orioles...……………….

Why wait??? Wake up tomorrow and get the tire fire started, at this rate the only thing I can pull for is seeing the O's break the Mets losing record!!! Going to be some lean years all over again but better to blow it up ASAP then to wait any longer.

The Astros had some super lean (like 99% fat free lean) years and now they are the defending WS Champs so there is hope.

Right, until some of their young stars contracts are up and the team cries poor mouth and lets them walk, then they'll become the AAAstros again.

Teams like the Orioles and the Mets need to break the whole thing down. That is what the Astros did and it paid dividends. Same thing with the Braves. Over in the NBA the 76ers did the same and now the future looks bright. There’s a lot of pain for a few years but ample reward in the end.

I am not comparing the Giants to the Mets or O's but it has been a tough week so far.

On Wednesday they blew three leads to allow the Marlins to walk-off, 5-4 and with that they have lost a series against a team on pace to lose 100 games. To make matters worse they can still get swept Thursday.

Ouch.

Bullpens...they have the power to try a man's soul. I hold my breath whenever the Nats middle relief takes over. -- Al

Nail on head, Sammy. No point in waiting to see if the ship will right itself. Time to start wheeling and dealing before the FA's walk and we get squat in return. -- Al

The Giants are in a more difficult position because they’re close to 500 and it’s not a great division. Along with deGrom talk, there is Baumgarner talk and the Giants could get a lot of players for him.

Brad:

I am torn on whether they should keep or trade Bumgarner. Part of me feels like the WS run is becoming a distant memory and the strategy of adding free agents is not working. They need to start to develop some young talent and I think trading Mad Bum for some prospects could be the catalyst for that. On the other hand he is one of the best pitchers in baseball and he is practicality unbeatable in the post-season.

Longoria is now out with a broken finger. I hope the Giants can weather yet another injury as their bench is not that deep and the farm system is bare.

The injury bug, again. You get Bums back, and Longoria goes. Same with the Nats. We finally got Eaton and Murphy back, and we just lost Strasburg to the DL. The injuries are extremely aggravating. -- Al

Al:

I know injuries are part of the game but as the season progresses you just can't help but wonder what might have been had they managed to stay healthy.

That's for sure. The Nats put 5 of their 2018 projected starting 8 on the field tonight, the most since Opening Day. Most of the season we have put 4 on the field and as few as 3 a couple of times. Needless to say, our offense has been a model of inconsistency all season. -- Al

Injuries now seem to be the norm rather than the exception. The team that manages them better will be more successful.

The Mets might go for 0 for their road trip. The manager looks lost, over matched. Might be too much for a rookie manager. This team is bad but they’re not this bad.

Interesting note: HoF retiree, Rafael Palmeiro, at age 53, continues his comeback attempt. He is playing for the independent American Association team, the Cleburne Railroaders. His son. Patick (28 y.o.), is one of his teammates. Rafael has homered twice in 14 games. Don't know what to say about all this. -- Al

The Yankees and the Red Sox, separated by percentage points for the best record in baseball about 1/3 of the way through the season, are both on a pace to have .700 winning percentages. In the era of divisional play (since 1969) only two teams, the 1998 Yankees and the 2000 Mariners, have had .700 or better winning percentages. I think both these teams have a legitimate chance of pulling it off, and I think the Division will come down to the last four games between them in Boston. One of these teams is going to have more than 100 wins and be hosting a one game wild-card!{sm2}

Certainly shaping up that way. Just wait until that 100 win team gets knocked out by an 86 win WC team in the brilliant 1 game format that MLB has.:rolleyes2: -- Al
