2018 Baseball season (1 Viewer)

The Giants are fading fast despite their win yesterday. Nobody seems to know if they will be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline. They are 6 games out of the Wild-Card and 6.5 out in the division. The latest rumor has them trading McCutchen who is a free agent at the end of the season. His trade value also increased over the weekend after Adam Jones appeared to be off the market.

Should be an interesting 24 hours for SF.

The NEW YORK YANKEES traded for Lance Lynn a short time ago.

What a tomato can; naturally by tomorrow he'll be Bob Gibson/Jim Palmer/Roger Clemens all rolled into one.

Rumor has it Gray is going next, Archer is coming to the NEW YORK YANKEES.

Oh please God, make this so.

Why does Arhcer's name keep coming up as the next Cy Young? His numbers are average, even if you factor in the fact that he play for the Rays. He lost 19 games in 2016 and in 2017 and 2018 his era is over 4.

Knowing my luck after I type this the Giants will trade for him.

Jason, Archer keeps coming up because of the potential promise if he was with a good team. He's a big strikeout guy, an innings eater, and decent (not great) ERA pitcher. He's a bit off this year so somebody might be able to get a deal. There is also the possibility that his average numbers are only going to get worse, but at 29 years of age, someone might roll the dice. -- Al

The Yankees have acquired Lance Lynn. His numbers were not good with the Twins but he had a pretty good career with the Cardinals and now that he’s back with a winning team, I’d expect his numbers to improve. I think it’s a good pickup.

the Astros play either Oakland or Seattle 16 of their next 26 games...
without Altuve and Correa in the line up...
they are really struggling...
unless their starters get on point...
which they haven't been lately...
the Rangers just swept them at home by a combined score of 22-8...
they will have a hard time hanging on to the lead in their division...

Al:

I guess I can understand that. The numbers only tell part of the story.

The bloom is off the rose, so to speak, on Archer. He seemed to have more promise earlier in his career.

Yankees are said to have interest in McCutcheon. He’s another one who’s not what he used to be.

The Giants desperately need prospects, so if McCutchen can bring back a decent hall of young talent I say trade him.

The Nationals just announced that Harper is available. I don’t know if teams can get a deal done by tomorrow at 4 but if he can clear waivers, he could be traded by August 31.

The Nationals are saying Harper is available, Indians are in the hunt.

They traded for Hand and if they get Miller back, they are right there with the Red Sox, Astros and the NEW YORK YANKEES.

I really didn't believe this would happen. The Nats must figure they have the outfield covered with the youngsters Soto, Taylor, Robles, and the vet Eaton. They must really figure that they won't be able to resign him. -- Al

Even if an NL team added Harper I still say that the AL is the favorite to win the World Series.

Yep. Hard to say that the NL really has a team equal to the likes of the Red Sox, NYY's, or Houston. Maybe the Cubs or LA are close, but not quite. -- Al

Red Sox win in extras 2-1, now have 75 wins, up 6 on the NEW YORK YANKEES.

Price was right tonight, bullpen was nails.

They are on fire right now.

Until we see the composition of the various playoff teams as of August 31, it's hard to say. Moreover, as we saw last year, the favorite doesn't always prevail.

Yankees, Phillies and Indians remain interested but Harper's availability could affect that interest.

Nationals GM just said:

"Bryce is not going anywhere. I believe in this team."

I suppose that means they couldn’t get a deal done :wink2:

Or it could be that Harper and Rizzo might have an understanding in regards to Harper resigning, as in a possible 'home team' discount. Anyway, that's MY spin on it.:wink2: -- Al

That’s just not the case. Washington was talking to teams but Rizzo got cold feet. Harper now knows that they were willing to trade him and I’m sure that won’t sit well.
