2018 Baseball season (1 Viewer)

ESPN reporting that there is a deal in place sending the O's RHP Kevin Gausman to the Braves. No word on the return, yet. Nats have moved RHP Brandon Kintzler to the Cubs, a minor move. Nats are apparently standing pat, neither buying or selling. Must be content to stay a .500 team.:rolleyes2: -- Al

The Red Sox picked up Ian Kinsler from the Angels for a pair of minor league pitchers.

I like the move, a solid player, we need a second baseman with Devers out and Nunez over at third, Holt is not an everyday player.

Looks like Pedrioia is out for the year, he might in fact be done.

Os are still trying. They’re talking to the Brew Crew about Schoop. They better hurry.

Archer to Pirates.

ESPN says Schoop is a Brewer now. Luiz Ortiz is part of the return, along with 2 others. O's are now about remade. Machado, Schoop, Gausman, Brach, and Britton now gone. Jones and Davis are the last men standing. -- Al

O's have 11 new players in hand through these trades, and I still don't know who they got for Gausman. -- Al

I'm a bit perplexed that the Nats didn't address the 2 glaring needs at catcher and a SP. They basically did nothing to help a .500 team improve itself. Rizzo is betting on the Nats finally playing up to their potential while assuming that the Braves and Phillies will fold. I don't see it. -- Al

The Gausman trade to Atlanta also included the remaining bullpen stalwart RHP Darren O'Day for which the O's got 4 players and some international money. So 6 of the old line O's gone for 15 new players and money. Tonight's O's lineup is going to be worthy of Barnum & Bailey's 3 Ring Circus. :rolleyes2: -- Al

I'll be in my glory if the LET'S GO AAAO'S!! take the next two from the NEW YORK YANKEES.

Hysterics would be more like it.

So make it happen.

The Os have made the right moves and hopefully these prospects pan out. I had heard that Jones was going to decline a trade, which is why they didn’t move him.

Jones declined to waive his rights as a 10 year player with the same team. He didn't want to be traded, which has perplexed the local pundits who can't understand why he wouldn't want to go to a contender at this stage in his career. Jones is the face of the O's, has strong community ties and identity, and likes Baltimore. I'm happy to see him stay. He's a class act. -- Al

Bleacher Report graded the various trades and here are the grades for the players the Orioles received.

Gausman and O’Day. B
Schoop. B
Brach. B+
Britton. B
Machado. B+

Red Sox trades. Acquiring Kinzler, B+. Eovaldi, B+.

Yankees received a D for acquiring Lynn but an A for Happ, and a B+ for Britton.

Of course it's a matter of time will tell for the O's. They got 15 players in the sell-off, and hopefully several will become major-league players. Most of them are probably a few years away. O's appear to have done pretty good. -- Al

Al:

I feel the same way about the Giants.

They didn't do anything at the deadline. At the very least they should have moved McCutchen for some prospects.

Management said that they wanted Gausman but they could not get a deal done. Meanwhile other baseball pundits said that they Giants simply lack the capital (young prospects) to be involved in any trades with teams like the O's.

Just getting home to read all the hubbub, I'm all for the teardown and rebuild over the next few years, hopefully between the additions through the trades, farm club, draft the Orioles will be back to competing again.

Sammy:

They have a dedicated fan base to go with a boatload of prospects. Patience is the key. After all it wasn't too long ago that MLB fans refereed to Houston as the Last-ros. Now they are one of the best teams in baseball with a World Series ring!

Springer hurt his shoulder and put on 10 day disabled list last night...

4 starters now on 10 day injury list...
McCann...
Altuve...
Correa...
Springer...
not near the same team without them...

somehow managed 15 hits last night...
for a 5-3 win against 2nd place West division Seattle...
to stop a 5 game losing streak...

Oakland and Seattle are too good for Astro's backup players...
need startes to get back in lineup asap...

Gonna need another shot at #246 as the A's beat him 7-6 leaving him 5-9 with a 5.02 ERA on the season. -- Al
The Bartolo Watch: Gonna need another shot (#6) at winning #246 as the Diamondbacks pounded Colon last night in a 6-0 win over Texas. This quest for #246 is beginning to wear on him, numbers wise, as his record sinks to 5-10 with a 5.18 ERA. When he won #245, he was at 5-5 and 4.76 ERA on the season. Gone 0-5 since. Hope he doesn't pitch his way out of the rotation before hitting his milestone. -- Al

The injury bug sucks, big time. It has all but derailed the Nats season. They have more players days on the DL this season than any other NL team. Hope your guys get back soon. Nothing is more frustrating than watching your team drop games because the first-line players are out injured. -- Al

Can't figure what the Nats are up to. Their one move yesterday was to send a decent RH relief pitcher, Kintzler, to the Cubs for a Class A RHP, in no way ready to help the Nats. Now today, they DFA another RH relief pitcher, Shawn Kelley, to be replaced by a AAA RHP rookie. Kelley has been on thin ice for a while, due to gopherballitis. His tantrum on the mound against the Mets last night must have been the last straw. He allowed a Hr and proceeded to throw his mitt like a 5 year old. Anyway, now 2 vet relief pitchers are gone right as the Nats expect to make their 'big push' for the playoffs. It seems the bullpen has been weakened right as they need it. Maybe Rizzo has a deal percolating that will make this all look correct.:rolleyes2: -- Al
